Wyoming's Lau Named MWC Volleyball Player Of The Week

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

Wyoming senior middle blocker Rachel Lau was named the Mountain West Conference Volleyball Player of the Week, marking the first time she has earned the award.

A native of Redwood City, Calif. (Sacred Heart Prep HS), Lau earned Most Valuable Player honors at the UNIWYO Cowgirl Classic after leading Wyoming to a 4-0 record. Lau totaled double-digit kills in three of four matches over the weekend, including 15 vs. Texas-Arlington, 15 vs. Idaho State and 10 vs. Wake Forest. She hit .337 for the week, including a season-high .417 (15k-5e-24a) vs. Idaho State.

Lau picked up 14 total blocks in the Classic and is the only player in the MWC this season to record three solo blocks in a single match on two occasions, doing so in back-to-back matches on Sept. 8 (vs. Idaho State and Wake Forest).

For the week, Lau totaled four digs, six solo blocks, seven aces and eight block assists. She currently ranks fifth in the MWC with 3.62 kills per game.
