Wyoming's Maytorena Named MWC Volleyball Player of the Week

Wyoming outside hitter Sara Maytorena was named Mountain West Conference Volleyball Player of the Week, marking her first overall award.

A 6-1 sophomore from Parker, Colo. (Ponderosa HS), Maytorena led the Cowgirls to their second tournament title this season after winning the War Eagle Invitational in Auburn, Ala., with a 3-0 record. Maytorena, named MVP of the tournament, paced Wyoming to victories over Middle Tennessee State and North Carolina-Greensboro Friday by totaling 16 kills, 22 digs and five blocks in the two matches. In the championship match vs. Auburn, Maytorena hit a career-high .706 with 13 kills and nine digs as the Cowgirls completed the tournament sweep. To start the week, Maytorena tallied 20 kills, 14 digs and a .459 hitting percentage in a five-game win at Idaho State on Tuesday.

For the week, Maytorena totaled 49 kills (3.5 kpg), 45 digs (3.21 dpg) and 11 blocks (.79 bpg), while hitting .408 (49-9-98).
