The Wyoming volleyball team will open up Mountain West Conference play this weekend as they welcome the New Mexico Lobos, on Friday night, and the Air Force Academy Falcons, on Saturday night, in Laramie. Both matches are set to start at 7:00 p.m.
With a 2-1 record over the weekend at the Idaho State Classic, the Cowgirls come into the weekend with a 5-5 overall mark. As a team, they are out hitting opponents .293 to .244, which leads the Mountain West Conference.
The Lobos enter the week with a record of 6-4 overall. New Mexico is currently hitting .240 (547-213-1391) per match and averaging 2.37 blocks per contest. They are led by rightside hitter Kelly Therkelsen, who is averaging 3.28 kills and has a .252 (128-51-306) hitting percentage.
This will be the 51st meeting between the two schools as the Cowgirls lead the series 27-23. The last time the two teams met was Nov. 14, 2003 in Laramie when Wyoming defeated the Lobos 3-1.
The Falcons are 3-4 entering this week's match. They will face UT Pan AM and Colorado State before playing the Cowgirls. Air Force is currently hitting .152 (382-214-1105) per match and averaging 12.73 kills as a team. They are led by middle blocker Kristin Hamlett, who is averaging 3.27 kills per game and has a .256 (98-40-227) hitting percentage.
This will be the 19th meeting between the two schools as Wyoming leads the series 13-5. The last time the two teams met was Nov. 15, 2003 with the Falcons coming out on top with a 3-0 victory in Laramie.
Ticket prices for single matches are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children or students without a Student I.D. All Wyoming students will be allowed free admission with their Wyoming Student I.D.
