Cowgirl Volleyball Welcomes Boise State and Utah State

The Wyoming Cowgirl volleyball team (10-7 overall, 0-3 MW), riding a three-match winning streak returns to the UniWyo Sports Complex this week for its first Mountain West home contests of the season. The Cowgirls face off with Boise State (8-7 overall, 2-3 MW) on Thursday at 7 p.m. MT. Wyoming closes out the weekend on Saturday at 6:30 p.m., hosting Utah State (9-6 overall, 3-2 MW) for the first time since 2000.

Wyoming moved to 6-0 at home after wins over Colorado and Black Hills State last Tuesday. UW's win over Colorado was the Cowgirls' first victory over the Buffs since 1992. UW picked up its first win of the season in Mountain West play last Saturday by sweeping Nevada (25-22, 25-15, 25-23). Wyoming recorded nine service aces in the victory over the Wolf Pack. The nine service aces was the most by the Cowgirls since they recorded 11 against Presbyterian on Aug. 24, 2012. Senior Reese Plante led UW against Nevada, as she recorded a Cowgirl season-best hitting percentage of .682 (15-0-22) recording 15 kills.

Boise State heads into Thursday night's contest with a 8-7 overall record and a 2-3 record in the Mountian West. Boise State defeated Grand Canyon in three sets (25-15, 25-19, 25-20) on Monday night in a non-conference match. The Broncos dropped a four-set match (22-25, 25-20, 20-25, 22-25) to New Mexico last Saturday in Boise, Idaho. The Broncos are hitting .255 (769-280-1916) on the season ranking second in the MW. Boise State is averaging 13.49 kills per set, as BSU ranks third in the MW. Defensively, the Broncos rank 10th in the MW in digs at 12.72. Senior Sarah Horton leads Boise State in kills with 144 on the season, as the Montana State transfer averages 2.53 kills per set. Freshman Hannah Hubbard paces the Broncos defense averaging 3.79 digs per set ranking sixth in the MW.

Utah State heads into the weekend sporting a 9-6 overall record and a 3-2 mark in the MW. The Aggies were swept (20-25, 15-25, 18-25) by New Mexico last Thursday evening in Logan, Utah. The Aggies are ninth in the MW in kills at 12.17 per set. Utah State ranks fourth in the MW in blocks with 2.52 per set. Defensively, the Aggies rank fourth in the MW in opponent hitting percentage at .193. Junior Rachel Orr leads Utah State in kills with 198 on the season averaging 3.41 kills per set. Orr ranks sixth in the MW in kills. Junior Ashlan Rodgers-Court leads the Aggies and ranks fifth in the MW in digs at 3.81 per set. Senior Alyssa Everett ranks fourth in the MW in blocks averaging 1.16 per set.
