Cowgirls Host UNLV and San Diego State During The Upcoming Weekend: TheWyoming Cowgirl Volleyball team will host UNLV and San Diego State overthe upcoming weekend. The Cowgirls will face San Diego St. on Fridaynight at 7:00 p.m., and UNLV at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday night,.

About San Diego State: The Cowgirls will play the San Diego State Aztecson Friday night in Laramie. They enter the match with a 9-9 overallrecord and 3-2 in the conference. The Aztecs are led by Monet Solberg,who is averaging 3.29 kills and 2.34 digs per game. This is the 19thmeeting between the two schools, San Diego State leads 16-2. The Aztecsare coached by Mark Warner, who is in his sixth year.

About UNLV: Wyoming will play the UNLV Rebels to finish out the weekendon Saturday night. They are currently 1-13 overall and 1-4 in theconference coming into the weekend. This is the ninth meeting betweenthe two schools, Wyoming leads 6-2. UNLV is coached by Deitre Collins,who is in her fifth season.

About Last Week: The Cowgirls went 1-1 over the weekend, which includedtheir first conference victory over Air Force. Despite a well foughtmatch, the Cowgirls were defeated by the New Mexico Lobos on Fridaynight in Albuquerque. It was a game of runs to begin the match. TheCowgirls took the early 4-0 lead, and seemed to gain some momentum. NewMexico had an answer with five points of their own. Up 11-7, theCowgirls would not score another point as the Lobos would run off eightstraight unanswered to take the game 15-11. Game two once again saw theCowgirls take an early 6-2 lead. But they were unable to hold, with NewMexico taking advantage of several mistakes and a 9-7 advantage. A nineall tie was all they would be able to manage falling 12-15 in the gameand 0-2 in the match. Despite scoring points early in game three,Wyoming fell behind 5-8. But great serving by Barbie Bragg got theCowgirls back into the game with eight unanswered, and a 10-8 advantage.Unfortunately, a 7-1 run would put the match away for the Lobos. Theywould take the game 15-11 and the match 3-0.Middle blocker ErickaSansoni led the way for New Mexico with ten kills and 18 digs. On thenight, Wyoming finished the night off hitting only .105 (42-27-143) andwith eight total team blocks. Senior Melody Friehauf notched 13 kills,three block solos and four block assists.

In the second match of theweekend, the Cowgirls earned their first Mountain West Conferencevictory of the 2000 season against the Air Force Academy Falcons onSaturday night. It turned out to be a well fought battle throughout thematch as each team was seeking their first conference win of the season.The Falcons gained the early advantage in the game taking a 9-3 lead,and it looked like they would run away with it. The Cowgirls fought backclosing the gap to 9-7, but Air Force would widen the gap to 11-7. But adriven Cowgirl squad fought back to take the game 16-14. They seemed tohave the momentum going into the second game taking the early 3-1 lead,but that was the only lead they would hold. Air Force would tie thematch at one a piece with a 15-10 victory. A spark must have been liteunder the team in game three with a dominating 15-0 win. As a team, theCowgirls hit .417 for the game, along with Rachel Lau's four kills and.800 hitting percentage. They would close out the match with a 15-8victory in game four to win their first conference match. Freshmanoutside hitter Michele Rauter led the way for the Cowgirls with 16kills, 15 digs and a .300 hitting percentage. Melissa Robinett, in onlyher second start of her career, had a career night with nine kills and18 digs.
