Wyoming Volleyball Begins Two-Match Home Stand Thursday

The Wyoming volleyball team continues Mountain West play with two matches at home this week. They will take on the TCU Horned Frogs, on Thursday, Oct. 13, followed by the New Mexico Lobos, on Saturday, Oct. 15. The Cowgirls enter the week with a 13-7 (.650) record overall and a 3-2 (.600) mark in the Mountain West after earning a 3-2 victory over the Colorado State Rams last time out. Wyoming is currently led by Jodi Purdy who is averaging a team high 3.59 kills plus 3.14 digs per set. She ranks second in service aces, third in kills and points and eighth in digs in the league. She is followed by redshirt freshman Erin Kirby who is adding 1.95 kills and 1.14 blocks, along with hitting .335 (142-37-313). Reese Plante is averaging 2.07 kills and 1.06 blocks, while Becky Stewart is leading the way with 3.90 digs per set. As a team, they are averaging 13.12 kills, 14.29 digs and 2.38 blocks per set. They rank second in blocks, third in hitting percentage and fourth in digs and kills.

In their first match of the week, Wyoming will have a match-up with the TCU Frogs, on Thursday. The Frogs are currently 16-3 overall and 3-2 in the MW. They are led by Kristen Hester who is averaging 3.46 kills and almost one dig per set. TCU returns four starters and seven letterwinners to a team that went 15-16 overall and 5-11 in the Mountain West a year ago.

This is 18th meeting between the two schools. Wyoming leads the series 10-7. The last time the two teams met was Nov. 11, 2010 as the Cowgirls defeated TCU, 3-1, in Ft. Worth. The Frogs are coached by Prentice Lewis who is in her tenth season.

Wyoming will close out the week against the New Mexico Lobos. The Lobos are 10-7 overall and 3-2 in the MW. They are led by Ashley Rhoades with 4.04 kills and almost one block per set. UNM returns three starters and in the Mountain West a year ago.

This is 65th meeting between the two schools. Wyoming leads the series 34-30. The last time the two teams met was Nov. 13, 2010 as the Lobos defeated the Cowgirls, 3-0, in Albuquerque. UNM is coached by Jeff Nelson who is in his fifth season.
