Two-Game Break For Cowgirl Volleyball From MWC Action

The Wyoming volleyball team will host two non-conference matches this weekend. They will welcome the Utah Valley State Wolverines, on Friday night, beginning at 7:00 p.m. and the Texas Tech Red Raiders, on Sunday afternoon, at 3:00 p.m.

The Cowgirls come into these matches with a 5-10 overall mark and a 0-6 record in the conference. They are currently led by sophomore outside hitter Rachel Smith, who is averaging 3.44 kills and 2.15 digs per game. She is followed closely by Andrea Seele who is hitting .236 (106-45-258) on the year, while adding 2.08 kills per game. As a team, Wyoming is averaging 13.04 kills per game and 14.36 digs per game.

The Wolverines are currently 7-8 overall. Jessica Endres leads the way with 3.37 kills and a .346 (202-52-434) hitting percentage. She is followed by Anne Olsen with 3.32 kills and 1.65 digs per game. They return three starters and seven letterwinners to a squad that went 11-16 overall a year ago. This is the first meeting between the two schools. Utah Valley State is coached by Sam Atoa, who is in his seventh year with the program.

The Red Raiders are currently 9-7 overall and will play Nebraska and CSU before facing the Cowgirls. They return three starters and eight letterwinners to a squad that went 10-16 overall and 6-14 in the Big 12 a year ago.

This is the fifth meeting between the two schools. TTU leads the series 3-1. The last time the two teams met was Nov. 26, 1988 when the Red Raiders defeated the Cowgirls 3-1.Texas Tech is coached by Nancy Todd, who is in her third year with the program.

As a special promotion for the weekend's volleyball games, fans who present a Cowboy football ticket from Saturday's game with New Mexico will gain free admission to either volleyball match.
