The Wyoming Cowgirl Volleyball Team will be back at home this week for two conference match-ups. The Cowgirls will take on the New Mexico Lobos, on Thursday, Oct. 14, and will wrap up the weekend on Saturday, Oct. 16, against the TCU Horned Frogs. The first match is set for 7:00 p.m. while the Saturday match is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. prior to the Cowboy football game vs. Utah.
Wyoming enters the week with a 17-3 (.850) record overall and 3-2 in the MWC after splitting with Air Force and UNLV last week. The Cowgirls are currently led by sophomore Jodi Purdy who is averaging 3.29, which is fourth in the league, 2.32 digs and 4.08 points per set. She is followed by Lauren Whitney who is adding 2.45 kills and 2.22 digs. JennaRae Jester is averaging a team high 1.48 blocks, while Jadranka Tramosljanin in adding 4.67 digs per set. As a team, they are averaging 13.47 kills, 14.08 digs and 2.76 blocks per set. They rank first in aces and kills, while being second in assists, blocks and opponent hitting percentage.
The Lobos are currently 10-7 overall and 2-2 in conference play this season. New Mexico is led by Taylor Hadfield who is averaging a team leading 3.10 kills per set. She is followed by Lisa Meeter who is adding 3.07 kills and 3.08 digs per set. They return five starters and nine letterwinners to a team that went 20-10 overall and 10-6 in the Mountain West Conference a year ago.
This is 63rd meeting between the two schools. Wyoming leads the series 34-28. The last time the two teams met was October 22, 2009 as the Lobos defeated Wyoming 3-0 in Albuquerque. New Mexico is coached by Jeff Nelson who is in his fourth season with the program and his 16th overall.
The Frogs are 12-6 overall, 3-1 in the MWC and will take on the Colorado State Rams before facing the Cowgirls. TCU is led by Irene Hester who is averaging 3.76 kills and 3.06 digs per set. She is followed by Christy Hudson who is adding 2.75 kills and 2.88 digs per set. They return four starters and ten letterwinners to a team that went 27-7 overall and 13-3 in the Mountain West Conference a year ago.
This is 16th meeting between the two schools. Wyoming leads the series 8-7. The last time the two teams met was October 24, 2009 as the Frogs defeated Wyoming, 3-0, in Ft. Worth. TCU is coached by Prentice Lewis who is in her ninth season.
