The Cowgirls are coming off an impressive match against Fresno State last Thursday. The Cowgirls hit .441 (34-4-68) for the match, as it was UW's highest hitting percentage in a match in its time in the MW. The Cowgirls' previous best in a MW match came last season against New Mexico. UW hit .425 in that match against the Lobos on Nov. 16.
Senior Erin Kirby, the NCAA's active leader in total blocks and total blocks per set, has her sights on the MW's total blocks record. Kirby is 11 blocks away from passing Utah's Kim Turner, who recorded record of 670 total blocks.
The Cowgirls continue to hit at a high percentage this season. UW is hitting .292 (923-296-2145) ranking second in the Mountain West and ranking fourth in the seventh in the nation.
About Air Force: The Falcons come into Thursday's match as one of the most improved teams in the Mountain West. Air Force sports a 9-11 overall record and a 3-3 record in the MW. The Falcons dropped a pair of matches last weekend, falling to San Diego State and UNLV. AFA ranks fifth in the league in hitting percentage at .242 (1061-390-2774). The Falcons rank third in the MW in kills at 13.60 per set. Air Force also ranks third in the league in assists at 12.85 per frame. Defensively, Air Force ranks sixth in the conference in digs at 14.04. The Falcons are 10th in MW in blocks at 1.60 per set. Junior Akokwe Clement ranks fourth in the MW in kills at 3.37 per stanza. Senior Hillary Keltner is third in the MW in assists per frame at 11.03. Junior Rebecca Bates paces the Air Force defense averaging 4.18 digs per set ranking third in the MW.
About New Mexico: The Lobos head into the weekend as one of the top teams in the MW. The Lobos are in second place after falling to UNLV and San Diego State last weekend. New Mexico ranks sixth in the MW in hitting percentage at .210 (775-328-2131). The Lobos rank ninth in the league in kills at 12.11 per frame. UNM ranks eighth in the MW in assists per set at 11.22. The Lobos are very solid defensively ranking second in the MW and fifth in the nation at 3.09 per frame. The Lobos rank fifth in the conference in digs at 14.30 per set. MW Preseason Player of the Year senior Chantale Riddle leads the league in kills at 3.73 per set. Junior Simone Henderson ranks ninth in the MW in hitting percentage at .320 (98-27-22). Riddle and Henderson contribute defensively for New Mexico both ranking in the top-10 in the league in blocking. Riddle ranks third at 1.44 per set with Henderson ranking fifth at 1.33 per frame. Freshman Ashley Kelsey ranks seventh in the conference in digs at 3.60 per set.
