The Wyoming volleyball team will start the second time through the conference this weekend as they hit the road against the New Mexico Lobos, on Thursday night, in Albuquerque and the Air Force Academy Falcons, on Friday night, in Colorado Springs. Both matches are set to start at 7:00 p.m.
With a 1-1 record over the weekend, which included a huge victory over the BYU Cougars, the Cowgirls come into this week's games with a 10-9 overall mark and a 3-4 record in the Mountain West Conference. Wyoming is led by senior Sara Maytorena who is averaging 3.68 kills and 2.18 digs. As a team, they are averaging 15.20 kills, and 13.11 digs per game, while out hitting their opponents .264 to .244.
The Lobos enter the week with a record of 7-11 overall and 1-6 in the MWC. New Mexico is currently hitting .191 (875-417-2396) per match and averaging 2.64 blocks per contest. They are led by outside hitter Nicole Ryan, who is averaging 3.22 kills and 1.75 digs per game.
This will be the 52nd meeting between the two schools as the Cowgirls lead the series 28-23, and have won the past five match-ups. The last time the two teams met was Sept. 24, 2004 in Laramie when Wyoming defeated the Lobos 3-2.
The Falcons are 4-13 overall and 0-7 in the MWC entering this week's match. Air Force is currently hitting .167 (851-456-2367) per match and averaging 13.09 kills as a team. They are led by outside hitter Lamecca Jefferson, who is averaging 2.57 kills and 1.70 digs per game.
This will be the 20th meeting between the two schools as Wyoming leads the series 14-5. The last time the two teams met was Sept. 25, 2004 with the Cowgirls coming out on top with a 3-1 victory in Laramie.
