The Wyoming volleyball team will resume Mountain West Conference play on the road this week. They will face the New Mexico Lobos, on Thursday, Oct. 20, in Albuquerque, N.M. and the Air Force Academy Falcons, on Saturday, Oct. 22, in Colorado Springs.
The Cowgirls come into these matches with a 5-12 overall mark and a 0-6 record in the conference. They are currently led by sophomore outside hitter Rachel Smith, who is averaging 3.63 kills and 2.30 digs per game. She is followed closely by Andrea Seele who is hitting .235 (121-50-302) on the year while adding 2.05 kills per game. As a team, Wyoming is averaging 13.18 kills per game and 14.69 digs per game.
The Lobos are currently 11-7 overall and 3-5 in the MWC conference. They are led by Nicole Ryan who is averaging 3.46 kills and 1.87 digs per game New Mexico returns five starters and eight letterwinners to a squad that went 9-17 overall and 3-13 in the MWC.
This is the 53rd meeting between the two schools. Wyoming leads the series 29-23. The last time the two teams met was October 21, 2004 when the Cowgirls defeated the Lobos, 3-0, in Albuquerque. New Mexico is coached by Kelley McKee who is in her fourth season with the program.
The Falcons are 4-18 overall and 0-8 in the MWC. Kristin Hamlett leads the way with 3.22 kills and 1.73 digs per game. Air Force returns four starters and eight letterwinners to a squad that went 4-21 overall and 0-14 in the MWC.
This is the 21st meeting between the two schools. Wyoming leads the series 15-5. The last time the two teams met was October 22, 2004 when the Cowgirls defeated the Falcons, 3-1, in Colorado Springs. Air Force is coached by Penny Lucas-White, who is in her tenth season with the Falcons.
