The Wyoming Cowgirl volleyball team will be out on the road for a pair of Mountain West Conference matches this week. They will travel to Albuquerque to face the New Mexico Lobos, on Thursday, Oct. 22, and then will play the TCU Horned Frogs, on Saturday, Oct. 24, in Ft. Worth. The first match is set to begin at 7 p.m. while the TCU match will be at 12 p.m. MT.
Wyoming enters the week with a 10-12 record overall and 1-7 in the MWC. The Cowgirls are currently led by freshman outside hitter Jodi Purdy who is averaging 3.47 kills and 2.55 digs per set. She is followed by Lauren Whitney and Dani Bedore. Whitney is averaging 2.39 kills, while Bedore is adding 2.14 kills and 1.88 digs per set. As a team, the Cowgirls are averaging 12.22 kills and 13.23 digs per set.
The Lobos are 13-7 overall and 4-4 in the MWC. They are led by Lisa Meeter who is averaging 2.39 kills and 2.51 digs per set. New Mexico returns four starters and ten letterwinners to a team that went 22-7 overall and 11-5 in the MWC a year ago. This is 62nd meeting between the two teams. Wyoming leads the series 34-27. The last time the two teams met was Sept. 26, 2009 as UNM defeated the Cowgirls 3-1 in Laramie. The Lobos are coached by Jeff Nelson who is in his third season with the program.
The Frogs are currently 17-5 overall, 6-2 in the MWC and will play the Colorado State Rams before taking on the Cowgirls. They are led by Kourtney Edwards who is averaging 3.39 kills and 1.02 blocks per set. TCU returns four starters and 11 letterwinners to a team that went 20-12 overall and 9-7 in the Mountain West Conference a year ago. This is the 15th meeting between the two teams. Wyoming leads the series 8-6. The last time the two teams met was Sept. 24, 2009 when the Frogs defeated the Cowgirls 3-0 in Laramie. TCU is coached by Prentice Lewis who is in her eighth season with the program.
