The Wyoming Cowgirl Volleyball Team will begin the second time through the conference season this week. They will take on the San Diego State Aztecs, on Thursday, October 28. The match is set for 8:00 p.m. Mountain Time in San Diego.
Wyoming enters the week with a 19-5 (.792) record overall and 4-4 in the MWC after a straight set loss against the 15th ranked Colorado State Rams on Friday night. The Cowgirls are currently led by sophomore Jodi Purdy who is averaging 3.29, which is fourth in the league, 2.50 digs and 4.06 points per set. She is followed by Lauren Whitney who is adding 2.44 kills and 2.12 digs. JennaRae Jester is averaging a team high 1.44 blocks, while Jadranka Tramosljanin in adding 4.30 digs per set. As a team, they are averaging 13.30 kills, 13.80 digs and 2.71 blocks per set.
The Aztecs are 10-11 overall and 4-4 in the MWC. SDSU is led by Kyley Sexton who is averaging 3.08 kills and 1.74 digs per set. She is followed by Andrea Hannasch who is adding 2.59 kills and one dig per set. They return four starters and seven letterwinners to a team that went 14-15 overall and 7-9 in the Mountain West Conference a year ago.
This is 40th meeting between the two schools. San Diego State leads the series 29-10. The last time the two teams met was October 2, 2010 as the Cowgirls defeated the Aztecs, 3-0, in Laramie. San Diego State is coached by Deitre Collins-Parker who is in her second season with the program.
