The Wyoming volleyball team will continue Mountain West Conference play at home this weekend. They will host the San Diego State Aztecs, on Friday, Nov. 4, and the UNLV Rebels, on Saturday, Nov. 5. Both matches are set to begin at 7:00 p.m. in the UniWyo Sports Complex.
Wyoming enters the week with a 7-13 record overall after falling to Colorado State over the weekend. The Cowgirls are currently led by sophomore outside hitter Rachel Smith, who is averaging 3.58 kills and 2.31 digs per game. She is followed closely by Andrea Seele who is hitting .240 (147-62-354) on the year while adding 2.13 kills per game. Freshman Carissa Lee, who currently ranks sixth in the MWC, is averaging 3.35 digs per game. As a team, they are averaging 14.43 digs and 13.21 kills per game.
San Diego State comes in to the weekend with a record of 14-9 overall and 6-4 in MWC play. SDSU is led by Melanie Green who is averaging 3.15 kills and 2.82 digs per game. They return five starters and ten letterwinners to a squad that went 4-25 overall and 4-10 in the Mountain West Conference a year ago.
This is the 30th meeting between the two teams. SDSU leads the series 25-4. The last time the two teams met was Sept. 24, 2005 when the Aztecs defeated the Cowgirls, 3-0, in San Diego. San Diego State is coached by Mark Warner, who is in his 11th season with the program.
The Rebels are currently 11-11 overall and 7-3 in the conference and will play the CSU Rams on Friday night before facing the Cowgirls. They are led by outside hitter Maria Aladjova, who is averaging 3.33 kills and 1.47 digs per game. UNLV returns four starters and eight letterwinners to a squad that went 15-12 overall and 8-6 in the Mountain West Conference a year ago.
This is the 21st meeting between the two teams. UNLV leads 11-9 and has won the last five in a row. The last time the two teams met was Sept. 22, 2005 when the Rebels defeated the Cowgirls 3-0 in Las Vegas. UNLV is coached by Allison Keeley who is in her second season with the program
