Wyoming Volleyball To Play Two on the Road

The Wyoming Cowgirl Volleyball team will be on the road this week as they travel to the state of Utah. They will take on the ninth ranked Utah Utes, on Thursday, Nov. 9, and the 21st ranked BYU Cougars, on Saturday, Nov. 11. Both matches are set to begin at 7:00 p.m.

Wyoming enters the week with an 11-12 (.478) record and 5-7 in conference play after earning a two match sweep over UNLV and San Diego State last week. The Cowgirls are currently led by junior outside hitter Rachel Smith, who is averaging 3.65 kills, which is sixth in the MWC, and 1.99 digs per game. She is followed closely by freshman Annie Meyers who is averaging 3.05 kills and 2.87 digs on the year. As a team, they are averaging 14.22 kills, 16.13 digs and have a .189 (1237-554-3610) hitting percentage.

Utah is currently 22-2 overall and 13-0 in the MWC, while being ranked ninth in the AVCA/CSTV Coaches Poll. They defeated New Mexico and TCU last time out. The Utes are led by Airial Salvo who is averaging 4.18 kills and 3.46 digs along with Whitney Webb who is adding 3.05 kills and 1.38 blocks per game. They return five starters and eight letterwinners to a squad that went 23-9 overall and 11-5 in the Mountain West Conference a year ago. This is the 60th meeting between the two teams. Utah leads the series 36-23 and has won the last eleven meetings. The last time the two teams met was Oct. 14, 2006 as the Utes defeated the Cowgirls 3-2 in Laramie. Utah is coached by Beth Launiere who is in her 17th season with the program.

BYU, who is ranked 21st in the AVCA/CSTV Coaches Poll, is currently 20-4 overall and 10-3 in the MWC. They went 1-1 last weekend by defeating TCU, 3-0, but lost to New Mexico 3-1. BYU is led by Chelsea Goodman who is averaging 4.53 kills and 3.32 digs, while Erica Lott is also averaging 4.01 kills and 1.16 blocks per game. They return six starters and 11 letterwinners to a squad that went 25-4 overall and 14-2 in the Mountain West Conference a year ago. This is the 59th meeting between the two teams. BYU leads the series 54-4 and has won 11 of the last 12 meetings. The last time the two teams met was Oct. 12, 2006 as the Cougars defeated the Cowgirls 3-2 in Laramie. BYU is coached by Jason Watson who is in his second season with the program.
