The Wyoming Cowgirl volleyball team will make their final road trip of the season with two conference matches this week. They will take on the BYU Cougars, on Thursday, Nov. 12 followed by the Utah Utes, on Saturday, Nov. 14. The Thursday night match is scheduled for 7 p.m. while the match against the Utes will be played at 1 p.m.
Wyoming enters the week with a 12-16 record overall and 2-11 in the Mountain West Conference. The Cowgirls are currently led by freshman outside hitter Jodi Purdy who is averaging 3.48 kills and 2.55 digs per set. She is followed by Lauren Whitney and JennaRae Jester. Whitney is averaging 2.62 kills and 1.20 digs per set, while Jester is adding two kills and 1.16 blocks per set. As a team, the Cowgirls are averaging 12.13 kills and 13.34 digs per set.
BYU is currently 12-12 overall and 6-6 in the MWC. The Cougars are led by Kayla Walker who is averaging 3.97 kills and 1.97 digs per set. BYU returns four starters and eight letterwinners to a team that went 14-12 overall and 7-9 in the MWC a year ago. This is 65th meeting between the two teams. BYU leads the series 60-4. The last time the two teams met was Oct. 17, 2009 as Cougars defeated the Cowgirls 3-2 in Laramie. BYU is coached by Shay Goulding who is in her second year with the program.
The Utes are currently 15-9 overall, 8-4 in the MWC and will play the Colorado State Rams before taking on the Cowgirls. The Utes are led by Karolina Bartkowiak who is averaging 3.04 kills and 2.46 digs per set. Utah returns three starters and ten letterwinners to a team that went 26-6 overall and 14-2 in the MWC a year ago. This is 66th meeting between the two teams. Utah leads the series 41-24. The last time the two teams met was Oct. 15, 2009 as the Utes defeated the Cowgirls 3-2 in Laramie. Utah is coached by Beth Launiere who is in her 20th season with the program.
