Wyoming Volleyball Wraps Up Homestand with Air Force and New Mexico

The University of Wyoming Cowgirl volleyball team (15-13 overall, 5-9 Mountain West) wraps up its four-match homestand this weekend against Air Force (6-19 overall, 3-10 MW) and New Mexico (20-5 overall, 10-4 MW). UW opens  against Air Force on Thursday at 7 p.m. MT. Wyoming closes out the weekend against New Mexico in a Saturday matinee at 5 p.m.

UW went 1-1 in a pair of matches last week inside the UniWyo Sports Complex. The Cowgirls fell to No. 10 Colorado State in four sets (23-25, 25-13, 25-19, 25-19) last Tuesday. Wyoming closed out the week with a three-set (25-20, 25-17, 25-15) sweep of Nevada on Thursday.

 The Cowgirls offense was impressive in the victory over the Wolf Pack. Wyoming hit a season-high .385 (37-7-78), as UW snapped a four-match losing streak. The Cowgirls' hitting percentage against Nevada was the best in a match since UW hit .386 against Wright State on Sept. 14, 2012.

Air Force heads into Thursday night's match with a 6-19 overall record and a 3-10 record in the MW. The Falcons are 0-9 in the UniWyo Sports Complex since 2003. AFA picked up a split last week falling to Utah State in four sets and defeating Boise State in four sets on Saturday. The Falcons' offense ranks 10th in the MW in hitting percentage at .188 (1159-554-3219). AFA also ranks 10th in kills averaging 12.07 per set. Defensively, Air Force is ninth in the conference in digs at 13.44 per set. The AFA offense is led by junior Ayesha Hein, as she is seventh in the MW in hitting percentage at .355 (195-48-414). Sophomore Akokwe Clement leads the Falcons in kills averaging 2.86 per set. Junior libero Emma Dridge leads the AFA defense averaging 2.60 digs per frame.

New Mexico heads into Saturday's matchup with a 20-5 overall record and a 10-4 mark in the MW. The Lobos have won six of their last seven matches dating back to Oct. 19. UNM picked up wins last weekend over Boise State in four sets on Thursday and Utah State in three sets on Friday. The Lobos are second in the MW in hitting percentage at .242 (1208-370-2812). New Mexico also holds opponents to a hitting percentage of .146 (1112-617-3386), which leads the MW. The UNM defense also ranks second in the conference in digs at 15.32 per frame. Redshirt junior Chantale Riddle leads the MW in kills averaging 4.02 per set. Senior Lexi Ross is 10th in the conference in hitting percentage at .343 (183-50-388). She adds 1.12 blocks per set to rank seventh in the MW. Senior libero Miquella Lovato is second in the conference in digs at 4.66 per set.
