The Cowgirl volleyball team will wrap up regular season play as they host three home matches this week. They will open up against the TCU Horned Frogs, on Wednesday night, Nov. 16, the Air Force Academy Falcons, on Friday, Nov. 18, and then close things out against the New Mexico Lobos, on Saturday, Nov. 19. All three matches are set to begin at 7:00 p.m. in the UniWyo Sports Complex.
The Cowgirls come into this match with a 9-15 overall mark and a 4-9 record in the conference. They are currently led by sophomore outside hitter Rachel Smith, who is averaging 3.92 kills and 2.39 digs per game. She is followed closely by Andrea Seele who is hitting .280 (194-70-443) on the year while adding 2.34 kills per game. As a team, Wyoming is second in the conference in digs with 1,281 (14.90 dpg) and third in service aces with 147 (1.71 sapg).
TCU comes in to the week currently 15-15 overall and 3-11 in MWC play and will face CSU before playing the Cowgirls. The Horned Frogs are led by Anna Vaughn who is averaging 3.82 kills and 1.19 digs per game. They return six starters and 14 letterwinners to a squad that went 23-9 overall and 10-3 in Conference USA a year ago. This is the seventh meeting between the two teams. Wyoming leads 5-1. The last time the two teams met was Oct. 11, 2005 when the Horned Frogs defeated the Cowgirls 3-0 in Ft. Worth. TCU is coached by Prentice Lewis, who is in her third year with the program.
The Falcons are 5-25 overall and 1-13 in the MWC. Air Force is led by Kristin Hamlett who is averaging 3.34 kills along with 1.59 digs per game. They return four starters and eight letterwinners to a squad that went 4-21 overall and 0-14 in the MWC. This is the 22nd meeting between the two schools. Wyoming leads the series 16-5. The last time the two teams met was October 22, 2005 when the Cowgirls defeated the Falcons, 3-0, in Colorado Springs. Air Force is coached by Penny Lucas-White, who is in her tenth season with the Falcons
New Mexico is currently 14-11 overall and 6-8 in the MWC conference and will play the CSU Rams on Friday night before facing the Cowgirls. The Lobos are led by Nicole Ryan who is averaging 3.22 kills and 1.90 digs per game. They return five starters and eight letterwinners to a squad that went 9-17 overall and 3-13 in the MWC. This is the 54th meeting between the two schools. Wyoming leads the series 30-23. The last time the two teams met was October 20, 2005 when the Cowgirls defeated the Lobos, 3-2, in Albuquerque. New Mexico is coached by Kelley McKee who is in her fourth season with the program.
