The Wyoming volleyball team will be on the road this week to take on the UNLV Rebels in the opening round of the Mountain West Conference Tournament, which is set to begin on Thursday morning. The Cowgirls and the Rebels will face off on Thursday afternoon at Moby Arena in Ft. Collins, Colo. The match is set to start at 1:30 p.m.
The Cowgirls come into the tournament with an overall record of 13-13 overall and a 6-8 conference mark, which gave them the fifth seed in the tournament. They are led by freshman Rachel Smith, who is averaging 3.32 kills and 2.16 digs per game. As a team, they are averaging 15.29 kills per game, which is fourth in the league, and hitting .255 (1483-546-3679) per match.
The Rebels are 14-11 overall and 8-6 in the MWC entering this week's match and enter the tournament as the fourth seed. UNLV is currently hitting .200 (1454-675-3890) per match and averaging 15.47 kills per game as a team. They are led by Maria Aladjova who is averaging 3.73 kills per game and has a .230 (328-127-873) hitting percentage.
This will be the 19th meeting between the two schools as the series is tied 9-9. The Rebels took both matches this season.
