UW Student-Athletes Earn Spring Academic All-MW Honors

University of Wyoming Athletics had 70 student-athletics earn Academic All-Mountain West Conference honors for the 2016 Spring Semester announced by the league office on Wednesday. A league-record of 993 student-athletes were named to the team, which surpasses the previous conference record of 959 spring semester honorees set in 2014-15 academic year.

UW honorees included 23 individuals from women’s swimming and diving, 12 from men’s track and field, eight from women’s basketball and women’s track and field, six from men’s and women’s golf, four from women’s tennis and three from men’s basketball.

The sophomore class led the way with 19 honorees. Additionally, there were 18 freshmen, 17 juniors and 16 seniors who earned the honor this year.

To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor on their athletic team.

Spring sports include baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s golf, softball, women’s swimming and diving, men’s and women’s tennis and men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track and field.
