LARAMIE, Wyo. (Nov. 15, 2016) – The Wyoming women’s basketball team will begin a three-game homestand on Thursday against the Denver Pioneers. The game is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. MT in the Arena-Auditorium. Live stats, audio and video can be found on the GoWyo.com website.
Wyoming enters the week with a 1-1 record after splitting its first two games of the season. The Cowgirls opened up the regular season with a 74-50 victory over Chadron State followed by a 63-51 loss against the 22nd-ranked Michigan State Spartans on Sunday. Clara Tapia led the way against the Eagles with 18 points and seven assists, while Marta Gomez finished with 15 points and six rebounds in the second contest.
UW is shooting 44-of-105 (.419) from the field and 21-of-47 (.447) from beyond the arc. The Cowgirls are also outscoring opponents 62.5-56.5 and out rebounding teams 35.0-31.0.
The Pioneers are currently 1-1 overall. Samantha Romanowski leads the way averaging 16 points per game while Jesse Spittel and Jordyn Alt are adding 6.5 rebounds per contest. As a squad, Denver returns four starters and eight letterwinners to a team that went 5-25 overall and 3-13 in The Summit League a season ago.
This is the 25th meeting between the two schools. UW leads the series 20-4 and has won the last four in a row. The last time the two met was December 9, 2015. The Cowgirls came out on top with a 75-64 victory. The Pioneers are coached by Kerry Cremeans who is in her fifth season with the program.
