Ryan Pinson, MEd, ATC, LAT - Director of Sports Medicine - Football
Ryan Pinson enters his first year as Head Athletic Trainer/Director of Sports Medicine for the University of Wyoming.
Pinson's direct responsibilities will be oversight of the Sports Medicine Department. His primary sport responsibility is working with the football program. Prior to his hire at UW, Pinson was the Head Athletic Trainer at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Ariz. Before being appointed Head Athletic Trainer for the Lumberjacks, Pinson served in a variety of athletic training positions from graduate assistant to associate head athletic trainer from 2000-07.
Originally from Adak, Alaska Pinson completed his undergraduate studies at Oregon State University. He is a member of District 7 RMATA, the National Athletic Trainers Association and will be a Licensed Athletic Trainer in the State of Wyoming. Ryan and his wife Sara enjoy camping, spending time going to athletic events and being outdoors with their dogs.
Joi Thomas, MS, ATC, LAT - Associate Director of Sports Medicine - GA Coordinator
Joi Thomas is entering her ninth year at the University of Wyoming. As the Associate Director of Sports Medicine, she oversees the graduate assistant athletic trainers with wrestling, swimming and diving, soccer, tennis, and spirit. During her tenure at Wyoming, she has worked with the Cowboy football, basketball, and track and field teams. Thomas returned to Wyoming, her alma-mater, in August of 2004 as a graduate assistant athletic trainer. She was then promoted to full-time in December of 2005.
Prior to returning to Wyoming, Thomas served as the Head Athletic Trainer at Carroll College (Helena, MT) from August 1999 to July 2004. Thomas received a Bachelor's of science degree in exercise and sport science from Wyoming in 1999 and a Master's of science degree in August 2006. She is currently working on her PhD.
Scott Knerr, MS, ATC, LAT - Associate Athletic Trainer - Volleyball
Scott Knerr enters his sixth season at the University of Wyoming and serves as an associate athletic trainer with the Cowgirl Volleyball program. Scott came to Wyoming after spending the previous eight years in the same capacity at Indiana University Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW). While there he oversaw the primary coverage of women's and men's volleyball along with supervisory coverage of men's and women's golf.
Scott has also functioned in the clinical setting, having worked at Registered Physical Therapists, Inc. in Salt Lake City from 1997-2000. He earned his Master's degree at the University of Utah in Sports Management and served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer (1995-97). His primary responsibilities included coverage of football, women's soccer and the nationally ranked women's gymnastics team. He received his bachelor's degree in athletic training from Ball State University in Muncie, Ind. in 1995.
Scott is a Certified Athletic Trainer and a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association. He and his wife, Jen, have three children, Parker, Claire and Liam.
Cole Vertz, MS, ATC, LAT - Associate Athletic Trainer - Football, Golf
Cole Vertz returns to the University of Wyoming for his first year as an associate athletic trainer with the Cowboy football program. Before returning to the Cowboys Cole worked at Barton College as the Coordinator of Athletic Training Services and Assistant Athletic Trainer. During his three years at Barton College Cole assisted with men's and women's basketball and cross country, men's golf and women's volleyball. Cole has also been part of the NFL serving with both the Kansas City Chiefs and Arizona Cardinals.
A native of New Troy, Michigan, Cole came to the University of Wyoming after Graduating with his bachelors of science from Western Michigan University in 2007. Cole graduated with his masters of science in 2009 from the University of Wyoming. Cole is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and a licensed athletic trainer in the state of Wyoming.
Lance Schuemann, MS, ATC, LAT - Associate Athletic Trainer - Men's Basketball
Lance Schuemann joined the University of Wyoming Sports Medicine staff in August 2013 as the athletic trainer for the Cowboy Basketball program. Prior to joining the Cowboys, Lance served in the same capacity with the men's basketball program at Charleston Southern University.
Lance holds a Masters in Sports Administration from Valparaiso University. While at Valparaiso, Lance was the assistant athletic trainer for the football and baseball teams. In 2007, he graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training, where he was an athletic training student for the 2007 National Championship men's basketball program.
Lance is a native of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida and a member of the National Athletic Trainer's Association. In his spare time, he enjoys time with friends and family, playing golf, and watching all sports, especially his beloved Chicago Cubs.
Megan Jensen, MS, ATC, LAT - Assistant Athletic Trainer - Women's Basketball
Megan Jensen enters her fourth season with the University of Wyoming and the Cowgirl basketball program and her second season as an assistant athletic trainer. Prior to being hired as an assistant athletic trainer with Wyoming, Jensen served as the graduate assistant athletic trainer with the Cowgirl basketball team. She earned her masters' of science degree in kinesiology and health from the University of Wyoming in the spring of 2012.
A native of Springfield, Nebraska, Jensen came to Wyoming after graduating from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln in May of 2010 with a bachelors' of science in athletic training. Jensen is a Certified Athletic Trainer and a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association and a licensed athletic trainer in the state of Wyoming.
Laurel Evans, MEd, ATC, LAT - Assistant Athletic Trainer - Track & Field, Cross Country
Laurel Evans is entering her second year as part of the University of Wyoming Sports Medicine staff. She is the primary athletic trainer for the Wyoming Cross Country and Track and Field teams. Originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan, Laurel earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training from Grand Valley State University in May 2010. She went on to obtain a Master of Education in Sport Management from Wichita State University, graduating in May 2012. While attending school at Wichita State University, Laurel served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer, working primarily with the Cross Country and Track and Field teams.
Laurel has been a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association since 2008. She is a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Trainers' Association, and is a licensed athletic trainer in the State of Wyoming.
Kylie Walker ATC, LAT - Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer - Soccer
Kylie Walker enters her third year as a graduate assistant with the Cowgirl soccer team and is currently working towards her masters' of science degree in kinesiology and health. Kylie came to the University of Wyoming after graduating from Sterling College in Sterling, Kansas where she was also a member of the soccer team. A native of Colorado, Kylie is married to Jason Walker and together they have a son, Trey
Katie Drendel, ATC, LAT - Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer - Swimming & Diving
Katie enters her second year as a graduate assistant athletic trainer after having previously gotten a Bachelor's of Science degree in athletic training from Southern Illinois University - Carbondale. Currently she is working with both the men and women's swim and dive teams. Although she spends the majority of her spare time working on her thesis, she also enjoys a round of golf, a good run, cooking, and spending time with her family and friends. She is anticipated to graduate in May of 2014 with a Master's in Kinesiology and Health from the University of Wyoming.
Zoe Iasilli, ATC, LAT- Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer - Football and Tennis
Zoe is entering her second year as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at the University of Wyoming. She is working on completing her Masters' of Kinesiology. She works with the Football and Women's Tennis teams. She graduated from Quinnipiac University in 2012 with a Bachelor's of Science in Athletic Training/Sports Medicine. She enjoys spending time with friends and family, traveling, hiking, and anything involving the outdoors. She is originally from South Burlington, Vermont.
Jeremy Ross, ATC, LAT - Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer - Football and Cheer
Jeremy is a 1st year graduate assistant at the University of Wyoming working with Football/Spirit Squad. He graduated from West Virginia University with a bachelor's of science in athletic training. His hobbies include running, mountain biking, hiking, anything that includes the outdoors and spending time with family and friends. He is originally from Pittsburgh, PA.
Adam Sewell, ATC, LAT - Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer - Wrestling
Adam is a first year graduate assistant for the University of Wyoming wrestling team. He graduated from Southern Illinois University with his bachelors in Athletic Training. Adam is originally from Hamilton, IL. In his free time Adam enjoys hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, and a variety of other outdoor activities.
