Athletic Trainers:

Ryan Pinson, MEd, ATC, LAT - Director of Sports Medicine - Football

Ryan Pinson joined the University of Wyoming Sports Medicine staff in July 2013 as the Head Athletic Trainer/Director of Sports Medicine.

Pinson's direct responsibilities will be oversight of the Sports Medicine Department. His primary sport responsibility is working with the football program. Prior to his hire at UW, Pinson was the Head Athletic Trainer at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Ariz. Before being appointed Head Athletic Trainer for the Lumberjacks, Pinson served in a variety of athletic training positions from graduate assistant to associate head athletic trainer from 2000-07.

Originally from Adak, Alaska Pinson completed his undergraduate studies at Oregon State University. He is a member of District 7 RMATA, the National Athletic Trainers Association and will be a Licensed Athletic Trainer in the State of Wyoming. Ryan and his wife Sara enjoy camping, spending time going to athletic events and being outdoors with their dogs.

Scott Knerr enters his eighth season at the University of Wyoming and first as the Associate Director of Sports Medicine. Scott will also provide athletic training services to the Cowboy Wrestling and UW Rodeo programs after working the previous seven years with the Cowgirl Volleyball program. Scott came to Wyoming after spending the previous eight years in the same capacity at Indiana University Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW). While there he oversaw the primary coverage of women's and men's volleyball along with supervisory coverage of men's and women's golf.

Scott has also functioned in the clinical setting, having worked at Registered Physical Therapists, Inc. in Salt Lake City from 1997-2000. He earned his Master's degree at the University of Utah in Sports Management and served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer (1995-97). His primary responsibilities included coverage of football, women's soccer and the nationally ranked women's gymnastics team. He received his bachelor's degree in athletic training from Ball State University in Muncie, Ind. in 1995.

Scott is a Certified Athletic Trainer and a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association. He and his wife, Jen, have three children, Parker, Claire and Liam.

Cole Vertz was promoted into the position of Associate Athletic Trainer/Directory of Rehabilitation in July 2015 after returning to the University of Wyoming in 2013 as an Associate Athletic Trainer with the Cowboy football program. Before returning to the Cowboys Cole worked at Barton College as the Coordinator of Athletic Training Services and Assistant Athletic Trainer. During his three years at Barton College Cole assisted with men's and women's basketball and cross country, men's golf and women's volleyball. Cole has also been part of the NFL serving with both the Kansas City Chiefs and Arizona Cardinals.

A native of New Troy, Michigan, Cole came to the University of Wyoming after graduating with his Bachelors of Science from Western Michigan University in 2007. Cole graduated with his Masters of Science in 2009 from the University of Wyoming. Cole is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and a licensed athletic trainer in the state of Wyoming.

Lance Schuemann, MS, ATC, LAT - Associate Athletic Trainer - Men's Basketball, Women’s Golf

Lance Schuemann joined the University of Wyoming Sports Medicine staff in August 2013 as the Associate Athletic Trainer for the Cowboy Basketball program. In July of 2015, Lance added Cowgirl Golf to his sport responsibilities. Prior to joining the Cowboys, Lance served in the same capacity with the men's basketball program at Charleston Southern University.

Lance holds a Masters in Sports Administration from Valparaiso University. While at Valparaiso, Lance was the assistant athletic trainer for the football and baseball teams. In 2007, he graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training, where he was an athletic training student for the 2007 National Championship men's basketball program.

Lance is a native of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida and a member of the National Athletic Trainer's Association. In his spare time, he enjoys time with friends and family, playing golf, and watching all sports, especially his beloved Chicago Cubs.

Megan Jensen, MS, ATC, LAT - Associate Athletic Trainer - Women's Basketball, Men’s Golf

Megan was promoted into the position of Associate Athletic Trainer in July 2015 after joining the University of Wyoming in 2012 as an Assistant Athletic Trainer University of Wyoming and the Cowgirl basketball. In July of 2015, Megan added Cowboy Golf to her sport responsibilities. Prior to being hired as an Assistant Athletic Trainer with Wyoming, Megan served as the Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer with the Cowgirl basketball team. She earned her Master of Science degree in Kinesiology and Health from the University of Wyoming in the spring of 2012.

A native of Springfield, Nebraska, Megan came to Wyoming after graduating from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln in May of 2010 with a bachelors' of science in athletic training. Megan is a Certified Athletic Trainer and a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association and a licensed athletic trainer in the state of Wyoming.

Laurel Evans, MEd, ATC, LAT - Assistant Athletic Trainer - Volleyball

Laurel Evans joined the University of Wyoming Sports Medicine staff in 2012 as the athletic trainer for the Wyoming Cross Country and Track and Field teams. She begins her first season with the Cowgirl Volleyball program in 2015. Originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan, Laurel earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training from Grand Valley State University in 2010. She went on to obtain a Master of Education in Sport Management from Wichita State University, graduating in 2012. While attending school at Wichita State University, Laurel served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer, working primarily with the Shocker Cross Country and Track and Field teams.

Evans has been a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association since 2008. She is a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Trainers' Association, and is a licensed athletic trainer in the State of Wyoming. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with friends and family, hiking, traveling, and watching all sports, especially the Detroit Tigers.

Katie joined the University of Wyoming in 2014 as an Assistant Athletic Trainer with the UW Rodeo teams and Cowboy Football. She begins her first season with men’s and women’s Track and Field and Cross Country programs in 2015. She assumed this position after serving as a graduate assistant athletic trainer for the university's men's and women's Track and Field (2012-2013) and Swim and Dive (2013-2014) teams. Prior to her employment at the University of Wyoming, Katie obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in athletic training from Southern Illinois University - Carbondale. Currently, she is continuing to pursue her Masters in Kinesiology and Health at the University of Wyoming and anticipates to graduate in August of 2015. Katie is a Certified Athletic Trainer and is licensed to practice in the State of Wyoming.

Jeremy Ross joined the University of Wyoming Sports Medicine staff in July 2015 as an Assistant Athletic Trainer with Cowboy Football after working the previous two years as a graduate assistant athletic trainer. In his new role, Ross will work with the Cowboy Football program and oversee the graduate assistant working with Cowgirl Tennis. Ross earned his Masters of Science in Kinesiology and Health from the University of Wyoming this past May after previously graduating with a Bachelor’s of Science in Athletic Training from West Virginia University. Originally from Pittsburgh, PA, Ross enjoys outdoor activities and spending time with family and friends.

Sam enters her second year as a graduate assistant athletic trainer working with the men's and women's Swim and Dive teams. She will be working towards her Master of Science degree in Health and Kinesiology. Sam came to the University of Wyoming after graduating from Washington State University where she earned a Bachelor's of Science in Athletic Training. She is originally from Pasco, Washington.

Christiana is in her second year at the University of Wyoming, pursuing her Master's Degree in Kinesiology while working with the Football and Spirit programs. She is a recent grad of Mountain West rival, Fresno State. Her interests outside of athletics, include reading good books, spending time with her family, spoiling her godson, cooking, Netflix, and social media.

Lian is a second year graduate assistant athletic trainer with the Women's Soccer team after receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training from Linfield College in McMinnville, OR. Lian is a native of Sammamish, Washington, where she worked as an athletic trainer for her alma mater, Skyline HS, after graduating from Linfield. In her free time Lian enjoys playing soccer, hiking, camping, and playing with her dog, Lucy.

Brandon is a first year Graduate Assistant at The University Wyoming working with both UW Tennis & Football. He received his Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training at The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, not far from the small town of Denmark Wisconsin where he grew up. He will be seeking his Master’s Degree in Educational Administration: Adult & Post-Secondary Education. His hobbies include Hunting, Fishing, Camping, Hiking, Skiing, and playing Basketball.

Travis enters his first years as a graduate assistant athletic trainer working with the men’s and women’s Track and Field and Cross Country teams. Travis came to the University of Wyoming after graduating from Gustavus Adolphys College in Minnesota where he was a member of the football team. Travis is originally from Overland Park, Kansas.

Dr. Matthew Boyer joined the University of Wyoming Sports Medicine Staff in July 2015 as the in-house Team Physician.

Dr. Boyer graduated from Missouri Southern State College with a degree in Biology and from Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine before completing a four year residency in Emergency Medicine in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. After completing residency, Dr. Boyer practiced Emergency Medicine/Urgent Care Medicine for seven years in Joplin, Missouri. Finding a passion for working with athletes, Dr. Boyer completed a fellowship at Via College of Osteopathic Medicine while working with Virginia Tech which he completed in 2010. Following his fellowship, Dr. Boyer began working for a private practice in Connecticut which furthered his interest in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound and ultrasound guided procedures. In 2013 he joined the staff at the University of South Dakota and University of Sioux Falls working as the team physician providing care for various athletes and events.

Dr. Boyer, a native of Laramie, Wyoming, is married and has three children. He and his family are very excited to return to Laramie and be a part of the University of Wyoming. They all types of outdoor activities, especially hiking and fishing in the mountains.
