LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The University of Wyoming's Office of Academic Support hosted a career development presentation last week with Jae Bing and Victoria Whealdon, representatives from the Altria Corp. The two presented on different aspects of career development, including creating resumes, career exploration, major choice, marketing yourself in the social media world, networking, and interviewing skills, amongst other areas. An important area they talked about was what it was like in the real world. The presenters were honest and gave real life advice that will be helpful as our student-athletes move towards completion of their degree and prepare for a career.
Kyle Pope (WRS/FR/Bakersfield, CA)
Going to this workshop really made other student athletes and me understand the importance of putting yourself out in the business world early. If you start making connections with people before you graduate, many more doors will open. This workshop was also very useful as far as how to make an effective résumé that will interest the reader.
Jae Bing (Altria Representative, Pinedale, WY)
"Overall we were very pleased with the attendance and enthusiasm the students displayed at the event. In the job market of today it cannot be understated of how competitive the environment can be. I hope the information that we presented to the students help them to grow into the great employees we know they can be."
Steven Cox (Academic Coordinator)
"We are sincerely appreciative of the time and insight from Jae and Victoria. They are excellent examples of people in the field giving guidance to others to help our student-athletes. You cannot get better material from people who are actually out in the field giving information of what they think is valuable in the job search."
