11 Cowboys Named to WAC Academic Team

Most for UW since 2014

Senior (2015-16): Jones opened his junior season competing in the 50 (25.14) and 200 back (1:55.68) for UW against Denver.  In the dual with LSU, Jones took fourth in the 200 back with a time of 2:07.24, he then followed that with a third place finish against Air Force with a mark of 1:54.30. He placed fifth in the 200 back (1:53.81) against No. 14 Utah and sixth in the 100 back (52.46), and also took fifth in the 200 back (1:54.56) against Pac-12 member Arizona State. As a final tune-up for the conference meet, Jones swam a 1:52.81 in the 200 back and a 1:56.72 in the 200 IM against UNLV. At the WAC Championships, he competed in the 100 back, 200 back, 200 IM and 400 IM. He recorded times of 1:50.01 in the 200 IM, 1:49.43 in the 200 back and 51.27 in the 100 back.

Sophomore (2014-15):
Jones' sophomore season was another exciting one for Wyoming, as he began by bringing home the victory in the 200 backstroke in the Colorado Mesa Invite with a time of 1:50.75. Against Denver, Jones finished fifth in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:56.07 and eighth in the 50 backstroke with a mark of 25.70. He finished sixth in the 100 backstroke against Air Force and was a member of the fifth place 400 freestyle relay team. At the WAC Championships, Jones finished 10th in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:48.58 and 10th as well in the 400 IM with a time of 3:56.76. Jones was named to the All-WAC Academic Team.

Freshman (2013-14): Jones made an immediate impact for the Cowboys in his freshman season. He earned All-Western Athletic Conference honors in the in both the 200 and 400 individual medley. He finished eighth in the 400 individual medley at the WAC Championship with a career-best time of 3:57.61. He also finished eighth in the 200 individual medley at the WAC Championship with a mark of 1:57.97, as he swam a career-best 1:50.13 in the preliminaries. Jones also scored points for UW at the WAC Championships in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:47.98 finishing in 10th place. He appeared in eight meets in his rookie campaign with the Pokes. He was also named to the Academic All-WAC Team.

High School: Jones joined Wyoming as a backstroke and individual medley swimmer from Loveland High School in Loveland, Colo. He lettered in swimming and was named All-Conference all four years of high school. As a senior team captain, he was named All-American after earning a fourth- place state finish, while also being an individual conference champion. Jones was also All-American his junior year after a third-place finish at state. An excellent student in the classroom, Jones was on the honor roll while also being an AP Scholar.

Personal: Jones was born on Sept. 19, 1994 in Fort Collins. He is the son of Steve and Linda Jones. He has three siblings, Dan, Krista and Carol. Dan and Krista swam for the University of Wyoming. Jones was also recruited by Yale, Columbia and Minnesota. He is undecided on a major.
