He will be looking to improve on his top 15 finishes at the Mountain West Conference Championships. At Wyoming: Junior: (2009-10)- Schmitt competed mostly for the Cowboys in the breaststroke events. He swam well for the Cowboys at the MWC Championships with two top 15 finishes in the 100 and 200 breaststroke. Sophomore: (2008-09)- Schmitt was one of the top butterfly swimmers for the Cowboys as a sophomore. In MWC dual meets, Schmitt added needed points and helped the Pokes to a 4-1 MWC record. Against TCU, Schmitt swam to two third-place finishes in the 100 and 200 butterfly. In the classroom, Schmitt earned his second Academic All-Conference Award. Freshman: (2007-08)- As a freshman Schmitt was a big part of the Cowboy roster. He was fourth on the team in the 100 breast and fifth in the 200. He also added depth to the butterfly and IM events. Schmitt competed in the 2008 MWC Championships and earned his first letter award. He was also an MWC Academic All-Conference selection. High School: While at Kelly Walsh High School, Schmitt had a very decorated career that was highlighted with All-America honors in both the 100 butterfly and 200 IM in 2007. He was an All-State and All-Conference swimmer all four years of high school. He was selected as the Wyoming Swimming Coaches Association Athlete of the State Meet as a senior and was also recognized as the Athlete of the Year as a sophomore and senior. He excelled academically and was a National Honor Society member, the Kelly Walsh Student Body Vice-President and a member of the honor roll. Personal: He was born on May 24, 1988 in Grand Junction, Colo. He is the son of Susie and Chuck and has a younger brother and sister, Robbie and Julie. He is majoring in geology.
