Wyoming Swimming and Diving Competes Against Arizona State and Missouri

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

The University of Wyoming swimming and diving teams competed in a double dual against Arizona State University and the University of Missouri, Saturday in Tempe, Arizona. The Cowboys defeated Missouri, 143-136 but fell to Arizona State 212-75. The Cowgirls fell to Arizona State 232-68 and to Missouri 212-82. Arizona State handled Missouri on both the men's and women's side, to easily win the meet.

The Cowboys placed third in each relay event on the day. In the 400 medley relay, Ethan Maclean, Scott Usher, Jerram Chudleigh and Jon George swam a time of 3:27.04 which was third to Arizona State's first and second place times. The 400 freestyle relay team of Chudleigh, George, Grant Kritzinger and Ted Dibble also placed third, 3:09.23.

Individually, Scott Usher came away with the lone Wyoming event victory of the day. He won the 100 breaststroke in a time of 57.00. He also came away with a second place finish in the 200 breaststroke, where he swam a 2:04.67. Damian Storz had a strong day as well, placing third in the 1000 freestyle and the 500 freestyle. He swam a 9:44.79 in the 1000 and a 4:43.79 in the 500. Jerram Chudleigh placed second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:42.22. The Cowboys had a strong 200 butterfly, in which they scored three swimmers in the top five. Galen Gough placed second, 1:53.76, Jake Weidert placed third, 1:54.71 and Storz placed fifth, 1:56.18. Gough also placed third in the 200 IM with a time of 1:54.59.

The Cowgirl relay teams came away with fifth and third place finishes on the day. The 400 medley relay team of Jody Riskowski, Missy Lewis, Ashley Mallett and Katie Haywood placed fifth with a time of 4:06.39. In the 400 freestyle relay, Riskowski, Janelyn Lilly, Haywood and Helja Vanhala placed third, 3:40.59.

Individually, the Cowgirls placed three girls in the top five of their events. Kristin Lewis placed fifth in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:51.79. Allison Schmid came away with a fifth place finish in the 200 freestyle by swimming to a time of 1:58.21. Jody Riskowski also cracked the top five with her fifth place finish in the 50 freestyle. She swam a time of 24.82 in the event.

 

 

On the diving side of the meet, Adam Miller placed second on both the 1 meter and 3 meter boards. He scored 238.73 points on the 1 meter and 215.10 on the 3 meter. Ashlie Niederer placed second on the 1 meter board with 200.03 points and Channing Kimball placed third on the 3 meter board with 206.10 points.

The Wyoming Swimming and Diving team will continue their Christmas Training Trip in Phoenix, until January 11, when they will return to Laramie. The men and women will face Mountain West Conference foe UNLV on Saturday, January 18. The meet will be held at Corbett Pool and is scheduled to begin at noon. This will be the third conference dual for the Cowgirls and the first for the Cowboys. The Cowgirls are 1-1 thus far in conference.
