Jan. 9, 2009
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -
After a lengthy training period in Minneapolis, Minn., the University of Wyoming diving team had excellent results in competition by winning four of the six events over the University of Minnesota and South Dakota State.
On Wednesday evening, Cowgirl Emily Huth won the platform event with a score of 219.90, the second highest platform score in UW history. The Cowboys were led by Mark Murdock who posted a score of 264.98 and won second place. Kyle Bogner and Tyler Miller placed fourth and fifth respectively.
"We had a great dual meet and had great results," said UW diving coach Ben Herdt. "We don't have a platform board to train on so whenever we do well at that event it is a huge accomplishment."
The top performances continued Thursday with a Cowgirls sweep on the one-meter board. Emily Huth won her second event of the week with a personal best score of 265.85, while Stephanie Ortiz earned second place and Tiffany Izatt finished third. Ortiz continued her undefeated streak in dual meets this season on three-meter dives by winning with a score of 292.50. Huth (271.50) and Hillary Bohler (216.50) finished second and fourth.
For the Cowboys, Miller had a career night by winning the men's one-meter board (309.70), and placing second with a personal best score of 334.95 at the three-meter event. Murdock placed third on both the one and three-meter, while Bogner came in fourth and fifth on the second day.
"Overall I am pleased with how we trained and with how we competed in the dual meet," Herdt said. "Winning four of six events is a great accomplishment for us."
The UW swimmers and divers will return home to face UNLV on Friday, January 17. The meet is set to start at noon in Corbett Pool.
