Fay and Campbell Continue to Impress on Opening Day of Air Force Diving Invite

Seniors Derek Campbell and Amanda Fay continued their consistent diving to lead the University of Wyoming divers on the opening day of the Air Force Diving Invitational on Friday in Colorado Springs, Colo. Both seniors finished in second-place with Fay earning second-place in the 1-meter springboard and Derek Campbell in the 3-meter event.
"Amanda and Derek had a great day and it is tremendous when we can compete against some of the nation's top programs," UW diving coach Yahya Radmansaid. "Our work ethic has been great and we are expecting to do some great things tomorrow."
Fay, the reigning Mountain West Diver of the Week opened the meet with a second place finish in the 1-meter springboard with a tally of 282.70. Sophomore Kari Campbell, who qualified for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships in the 1-meter dive two weeks ago, placed eighth with a score of 267.00.
The Cowgirls wrapped up the day in the platform dive with Fay once again leading the way finishing seventh with a score 220.95. Her mark was the third best in UW history. Kari Campbell followed in 10th place with a tally of 212.70. Both were season-highs for the UW duo, who are hitting their peak going into the MW Championships.
Derek Campbell, the Western Athletic Conference leader in the 3-meter springboard finished second in the event with a score of 372.55, his second highest total of the season. Campbell battled back in the finals after placing sixth in the preliminaries earlier in the afternoon.
The Wyoming divers return to action at the AFA Diving Invitational tomorrow morning at 9 a.m., MT., with the men's 1-meter springboard.
