University of Wyoming senior swimmer Morgan Hartigan returned to the University of Minnesota Aquatics Center Pool on Friday competing in the 100 backstroke at the NCAA Championships. She competed in her second event of the championships and became the third Cowgirl in the history of the program to compete in the race.

“I thought she got off to an outstanding start in the first half of the race,” UW head coach Tom Johnson said. “It felt like the last 10 seconds of the race took forever, but it was just a talented field she was in.”

The Cheyenne, Wyo., native swam a 53.52 in the 100 backstroke placing 35th in the 52-swimmer field. Her time in the event is the third-fastest time in Cowgirl history. She also was the second-fastest swimmer in the event out of the Mountain West.

“We just need to get ready for tomorrow’s 100 freestyle and try to go after a personal record,” Johnson stated.

Hartigan returns to the pool to compete in the 100 freestyle tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. MT. Hartigan ranked 36th in the NCAA in the event this season with a school record time of 48.77.
