March 22, 2012
SEATTLE, Wash. -
The 2012 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships began on Thursday, in Seattle, Wash., with Wyoming Cowboy senior swimmer Brandon Fischer racing in the 200 individual medley. Fischer swam the 200 IM at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center. In the preliminaries he took 52nd place with a time of 1:51.57.
"I think Brandon was nervous today," UW head coach Tom Johnson said. "He looked great in his last few practices and I was expecting him to swim faster than he did today. We just need to put this behind us and be better tomorrow."
Fischer began his NCAA Championships run with the 200 IM finishing 52nd place in the preliminaries (1:51.57). He will continue the championships on Friday with the 100 breaststroke. He has the 32nd-fastest time in the country in the 100 breast of 54.67.
Friday's preliminaries will begin at noon MT with the finals to follow at 8 p.m.
