University of Wyoming sophomore swimmer Adam Kalms became the fifth Cowboy swimmer to earn Honorable Mention All-America honors after breaking his school record in the 200-yard freestyle at the 2013 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday in Indianapolis.

Kalms opened the day breaking the school record at the IU Natatorium in the preliminaries finishing fourth in his heat to take 12th place overall with a time of 1:34.40. His finish earned him a place in the consolation final and his time broke his previous school record of 1:34.52 set at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships last month. He returned to the evenings consolation final finishing eighth in the heat with a time of 1:34.83. His finish earned him 16th place overall in the event, while earning him Honorable Mention All-America honors becoming the first Cowboy swimmer to earn the honor since Olympian Scott Usher in 2005. He finish also scored Wyoming one team point to conclude the event in 32nd place.

"I was very happy for Adam to break the school record this morning," Wyoming head coach Tom Johnson said. "I am very glad for him to earn Honorable Mention All-American as a sophomore. He didn't have the race tonight I thought he would have. He just could not find that other gear and this race was so fast that he could not move up."

Kalms will conclude the NCAA Championships on Saturday with the 100 freestyle. He enters with the No. 27 time of 43.13. Preliminaries will begin at 9 a.m. MT.
