The Wyoming swimming and diving team closed out the 2007 exhibition season with another set of very impressive times during the annual Brown vs. Gold intrasquad meet, Friday night at Corbett Pool.

The Brown team, which was coached by junior captains Krista Jones and Sam Shook, beat the Gold team by a final score of 315-274. The gold team was coached by senior captains Angela DeWolf and Levi Bell.

The most impressive race of the night came from sophomore Megan Evans. Evans, who transferred to UW from Oregon State this fall, broke the Corbett Pool record in the 200 breaststroke in her first race of that distance in the UW pool. She swam a time of 2:22.96 which breaks a record time of 2:23.19 which was swam by BYU last winter.

Evans and junior Matt Urich paced the Brown team with three first place individual finishes each. Besides the 200 breaststroke, Evans also won the 100 breaststroke (1:05.99) and 200 IM (2:11.90). Urich took first place honors in the 500 freestyle (4:51.73), the 1000 freestyle (10:11.40) and the 200 butterfly (1:59.17). Sophomore Cassie Stelow also won multiple events for the Brown team and placed first in the 50 freestyle (23.92) and 100 freestyle (53.85). The Brown relay teams earned major points, winning three of four relays including the men's and women's 200 medley and the women's 400 freestyle.

Five Gold team members won multiple events including juniors Aimee Stinson, Eli Bell and Alex Larkin as well as senior Brittany Wainwright and freshman Erin Wagner. Stinson and Bell both excelled in the freestyle events with Stinson winning the 1000 (10:56.59) and 200 (1:55.23) and Bell winning the 100 (46.75) and the 200 (1:43.91). Larkin cruised to a first place finish in both breaststroke events with a 100 time of 57.81 and a 200 time of 2:08.27. Wainwright won both boards of diving with a one-meter score of 240.00 and a three-meter score of 250.80. Wagner won both backstroke events with a time of 1:00.46 in the 100 and 2:10.75 in the 200.

"This was the fastest brown and gold meet I have seen in my ten years at Wyoming," said veteran UW head coach Tom Johnson. "I was a little nervous about our how good our times would be due to our tough training load this week. However, the kids raced through it and really impressed me. They are excited because they know how hard they have been working but were still able to swim fast times tonight. There is still a lot of room for improvement but I am excited about how well our exhibitions went."

The UW swimming and diving team will begin the 2007-08 regular season on Friday, Oct. 12 when they travel to the University of Denver Relay meet.
