LARAMIE, Wyo. -

The University of Wyoming men's and women's swimming and diving teams defeated the University of North Dakota at Corbett Pool, on Saturday. Wyoming won both duals by the score of 134-101.

The Cowgirls won every swimming event on the day, and one of two diving boards to claim the victory. The first Cowgirl victory came in the 200 medely relay, where the team of Jody Riskowski, Missy Lewis, Ashley Mallett and Katie Haywood swam a 1:51.79 to win the event. Kristin Lewis won both the 500 and 1000 freestyles with times of 5:24.69 and 11:00.22 respectively. Helja Vanhala won both the 100 and 200 freestyles in times of 54.35 and 1:58.82. Jody Riskowski was victorious in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.67. Allison Schmid won the 200 IM and the 200 breaststroke with times of 2:12.50 and 2:25.94. Ashley Mallett swam a 2:12.85 to win the 200 butterfly. Janelyn Lilly won the 200 backstroke and Kristin Lewis won the 500 freestyle with respective times of 2:12.36 and 5:24.69. The women also won the 200 freestyle relay where Riskowski, Lindsey Springer, Katie Haywood and Vanhala swam a 1:39.67. Lindsay Ahrens won the 1-meter diving event with the score of 229.875.

"The women had a great day," said UW head coach Tom Johnson. "I am very pleased with our relay times. I think they were as fast as we have ever swam in season. They were awesome. Allison Schmid had a great day."

The men also had an excellent day and won 10 of 11 swimming events. Both relay teams were victorious. The team of Ethan Maclean, Scott Usher, Morgan Wardell and Jon George won the 200 medley relay and Jerram Chudleigh, Bryce Perica, Wardell and Grant Kritzinger won the 200 freestyle relay. Jerram Chudleigh won both the 200 freestyle and the 200 butterfly with times of 1:43.59 and 1:54.43. Jon George captured the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.06. Galen Gough won the 200 IM in a time of 1:58.83. The 100 freestyle was won by Grant Kritzinger with a time of 48.03. Guy Ferber swam a 1:57.49 in the 200 backstroke which was good for the win. Damian Storz won the 500 freestyle in a time of 4:43.24. The final Cowboy win came when Scott Usher won the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:09.38. Lone Cowboy diver Adam Miller won the 1-meter board with a score of 245.1.

 

 

"The men continued to swim well today," replied Johnson. "Jerram (Chudleigh) had a great day and the medely relay was great."

The University of Wyoming swimming and diving team will return to action next weekend when they travel to Lincoln, Nebraska and Lawrence, Kansas. The Cowgirls will swim duals against Nebraska on Friday, November 8 and Kansas on Saturday November 9. Both the men and women will face Southwest Missouri State on Saturday, in Lawrence. Johnson is excited for this road trip, "We are really looking forward to going to sea level and letting the kids unleash a little bit."
