UW's Bull, Ortiz, and Murdock earn MWC Weekly Honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -

Wyoming Cowgirl swimmer Shelby Bull and UW divers Stephanie Ortiz and Mark Murdock were selected by the Mountain West Conference as Women's Swimmer and Divers of the Week. For Bull, it is her first career weekly award, while Ortiz has been named honored twice this season and Murdock's third of the year.

Bull, a sophomore from Salt Lake City, Utah, won two individual events in Wyoming's 169-131 Conference duel meet victory over San Diego State. After posting top times in the 100-yard freestyle (51.87) and 100-yard butterfly (57.63), she swam the third leg of the Cowgirls' 200-yard medley relay that won with a time of 1:44.48 en route to setting a new pool record. Bull also swam the second leg of Wyoming's 400-yard freestyle relay that captured first place in 3:26.57, the second fast time in program history.

Ortiz, a product of Colorado Springs, Colo., posted a zone qualifying score on the 1-meter springboard at the Air Force Diving Invitational. The senior tallied 275.65 points to capture first place in the event. Ortiz also placed second on the 3-meter board with a mark of 273.25.

Murdock, a native of Flower Mound, Texas, earned two victories at the Air Force Diving Invitational last weekend. The junior finished first on the 3-meter springboard with a final mark of 355.60. He also won the platform event after tallying 342.45 points, his second-highest and the MWC's second-highest total on the season. Murdock also scored 306.95 on the 1-meter springboard to place second.

TCU's Edgar Peyro earned men's swimmer of the week while New Mexico's Aubrey Bush was co-diver of the week with Ortiz.
