Wyoming Swimming And Diving To Compete In Final Duals Of The Season
Feb. 3, 2011
LARAMIE, Wyo - The University of Wyoming Swimming and Diving teams will compete in their final two duals of the regular season on Friday and Saturday.
The Cowgirls will travel to Fort Collins, Colo., on Friday, Feb. 5 to take the Colorado State Rams.
"This has been a big rivalry for us in the last 13 years," Wyoming head swimming coach Tom Johnson said. "We have been able to handle them well, especially this group of seniors. We know that this is their senior night and they are going to be fired up to swim, so we need to match their intensity."
The Cowgirls have won three of the last five meetings with the Rams and the home team has won each of the last three meetings. Wyoming defeated CSU last season in Corbett Pool 162-138.
The Wyoming women will host the Air Force Falcons in their final home dual of the 2010-11 season on Saturday.
"On the women's side they (Air Force) are significantly better than years before. We can't take them lightly," Johnson added. "We have been struggling to swim well on the second day of weekends lately and we really need to show up on Saturday."
The Cowgirls have defeated the Falcons for five consecutive years, winning last season in Colorado Springs 183-102.
"The guys have had a tremendous rivalry over the last few years with Air Force," Johnson said. "The battle for the `Helmet' is very important to these guys. This senior class has never lost the `Helmet' to Air Force and I hope we can keep that up this weekend."
The Cowboys have defeated the Falcons three years in a row, winning last season in Colorado Springs 167-133.
Twelve Cowboy and Cowgirl seniors will be honored before the dual with Air Force on Saturday. Cowboys to be honored include: Kyle Bogner, Nathan Fuller, Brett Henehan, Christian Johnson, Nate Ladner, Mark Murdock and David Schmitt. Cowgirls to be honored are: Kristen Flachbarth, Allie Smith, Whitney Taylor, Stephanie Vint and Lesley Young.
The Cowgirls will take on CSU on Friday, beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday's dual with Air Force will begin at 1 p.m., with the first round of diving beginning at 11:30 a.m.
