University of Wyoming senior diver Allie Smith was recently named to the Capitol One Academic All-District VII Women's at Large First Team. It's the first such honor for Smith. In being named to the First Team, she now moves on to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, which will be selected on June 9.

Smith, a native of Sandy, Utah, is a two-time All-Mountain West Conference performer in the one-meter and three-meter events in 2010 and 2011. She holds the all-time school record in the one-meter springboard and Corbett Pool records in both the one-meter and three-meter. She also qualified for the NCAA Zone "E" Diving Championships this past year, finishing 12th in the one-meter springboard. Smith has a 3.94 grade-point average and is majoring in mathematics. She has been named Academic All-Conference and a MWC Scholar-Athlete throughout her career at UW.

The Academic All-District® teams includes student-athletes that are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. The University Division team includes NCAA Division I participants, while the College Division team combines NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.

To qualify, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average, must have reached sophomore athletic eligibility and participated in at least 50 percent of her team's events.
