LARAMIE, Wyo. - University of Wyoming swimmers George Eglesfield and Ryan Nelson posted standout performances over the weekend at the 2013 Los Angeles Invitational in Irvine, Calif. The Cowboy duo combined to win two events and finish second in another.

A native of Rangiora, New Zealand, Eglesfield won the 100 butterfly on Saturday in a time of 55.23 and claimed second in the 200 butterfly on Sunday in 2:02.18. The 200 time was a personal best and both times are good enough to qualify for the 2013 U.S. Open, but he will not compete in the event. Eglesfield completed his first season for Wyoming this spring, as he earned Second-Team All-MPSF honors by finishing fourth in the 200 butterfly.

Nelson, who competed in the Phillips 66 National Championships & World Championship Trials two weeks ago, won the 400 individual medley on Saturday in 4:27.19. He will compete in the 2013 U.S. Open, which will be later this month in the same pool as the L.A. Invite. A native of Huntington Beach, Calif., Nelson capped his first season at Wyoming with two First-Team All-MPSF accolades. He placed third in the 1650 freestyle and second in the 400 IM. He broke a total of three school records at the MPSF Championship, including one that had been held since 1982.

"Both Ryan and George did very well at the L.A. Invite," Wyoming assistant Manny Noguchi said. "Their summer swimming season has been very beneficial for both, as it will get them ready for the upcoming collegiate season. George's time in the 200 butterfly ranks second in New Zealand right now, as he will look to qualify for next summer's Pan Pacific Games at the New Zealand Nationals in April 2014. I know he will have the best time by the time he goes back for the trials. Ryan's goal will be earning a top-eight spot in the 400 IM at next year's NCAA Championships and summer nationals."
