Wyoming Swimming and Diving Adds New Assistant Swimming Coach, and New Diving Coach

University of Wyoming head swimming and diving coach Tom Johnson has announced the hiring of Manabu "Manny" Noguchi and Patrick Bukowski as assistant coaches for the Cowboys and Cowgirls. Noguchi will be assisting with swimming, and Bukowski will be the `Pokes diving coach.
"Manny is an outstanding coach and recruiter that will help our team achieve new levels in the years to come," said Johnson. "Pat is also a terrific young coach who quickly improved the diving program at St. Bonaventure."
Noguchi comes to the University of Wyoming from Michigan State University where he was an assistant swimming coach and recruiting coordinator since 2004. While at MSU he also taught Kinesiology courses including, weight training and general conditioning.
Before joining the MSU staff Noguchi was a graduate assistant for the University of Georgia, Athens Ga., from 2002-04, where he earned a Masters Degree in Education with an emphasis in exercise science. While at the UGA, he served as the Athens Bulldog Swim Club (ABSC) Senior Assistant Swim Coach.
"Manny has had a terrific experience coaching in the South Eastern (SEC) and in the Big 10 conferences," added Johnson. "He is a terrific and tireless recruiter, and has national and international experience that will help our team greatly."
Noguchi's vast coaching experience also includes the Head Swim Coach for Kyushu University, in Fukuoka Japan from 2001 to 2002. Also in 2001, Noguchi was a staff member of the United States Swimming National Team during the Swimming World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan.
Also adding to Noguchi's excellent coaching experience he was the pre-senior head coach for Nitro Swimming Club in Austin, Texas leading them to their first ever Texas state title.
Noguchi swam at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo, Calif., where he was a member of the California Junior College Championship Swim team from 1994 to 1996. He is a native of Fukuoka, Japan, where he graduated high school in 1992.
"I am very excited to have him and his wife as part of the Wyoming Swimming and Diving family," said Johnson.
Noguchi replaces Wyn Saunier who served as the assistant swimming coach since August of 2008.
Patrick Bukowski joins the University of Wyoming diving program from St. Bonaventure University, in St. Bonaventure, NY, where he served as the head diving coach for the past two seasons.
While at St. Bonaventure, Bukowski coached five Atlantic 10 Conference Diving Finalists, as well as, numerous divers of the week during his two seasons. Also while coaching at St. Bonaventure, he helped lead all of his divers to top 12 finishes at the 2009 and 2010 A-10 Diving Championships. Throughout his two years he has compiled an impressive record of 16 individual event wins, 10 diving event sweeps, and finalists in three of four diving events at the A-10 championships.
"Pat has demonstrated to be a thorough recruiter and has an extensive knowledge of divers that can help our team get better," added Johnson.
While at St. Bonaventure University, Bukowski was also the head diving coach at the Southern Tier Diving Club in St. Bonaventure, NY. He reestablished the club program as a top age group diving program in western New York. While at Southern Tier he coached first, third, and fourth place finishers at the Cattaraugus/Chautauqua County Diving Championships.
Prior to his stint in St. Bonaventure, Bukowski was the varsity diving coach at a State College, Pa., Area High School from 2007 to 2008, where he led them to a district championship.
Bukowski graduated from Penn State University in 2008, where he was a four year lettermen, and starter for the varsity diving team.
"We look forward to having Pat carry on the tradition of great diving at the University of Wyoming," said Johnson.
Bukowski replaces diving coach Kevin Bretting, who served one season as the UW diving coach.
