2010-11... Simmons had a banner year for the Cowgirls, setting two personal records and making the trip to the first round of the NCAA Championships. She made her mark in the 200-meter dash, finishing second at the Air Force Duals and the Front Range Championships. She was a valuable 400-meter runner as well, finishing sixth at the MW Championships. Her speed helped the Cowgirl 4-by-400-meter relay team advance to the NCAA West Prelims, where the foursome finished 19th. Simmons topped it all off with Academic All-MW and Scholar-Athlete awards.
2009-10... Simmons did not compete for a year.
2008-09... In Simmons's freshman season, she was a part of the regional qualifying 4-by-400-meter relay team that took ninth at the Midwest Regional meet. During the season, she mainly competed in the 200- and 400-meter dashes and had her best race of the season at the Mountain West Conference Championships in the 400-meter dash where she finished ninth. In the classroom, Simmons earned Academic All-Conference, as well as a Mountain West Scholar-Athlete Award for her hard work in family and consumer science.
High School... Simmons was a three-sport athlete while at Torrington High School. She competed in volleyball, basketball and track and field. She was the 200-meter dash state champion in 2005 and 2008. In the 400-meter relay, she was the state champion in 2006-08 and set two 3A state records. In the 100-meter dash, she was the runner-up in 2006 and the state champ in 2007-08 and set another state record. She also was a part of the 1,600-meter relay champion team. Simmons was named the May 2008 State Farm Athlete of the Month. She also was the Most Valuable Female Athlete in Torrington HS. She was selected to the all-conference team and all-state team four times in high school. She was a Female Academic Athlete four times, and also was in the National Honor Society in 2007-08. She was class president as a freshman, sophomore and as a senior.
Personal... Simmons was born in Torrington, Wyo. She is the daughter of Marilyn and Mark Simmons. She has two older brothers and one older sister. Simmons is pursuing a career in secondary education with an emphasis in family consumer sciences.
