Wyoming Track Wraps Up First Event Of 2011
Jan. 22, 2011
BOULDER, Colo. - The University of Wyoming track program finished up some competition as 10 athletes ran on the last day of the Potts Indoor Invite.
The meet served as a way to gain racing experience for some of the program's younger athletes.
"On the whole, I thought our kids ran pretty well," Wyoming coach Don Yentes said. "We wanted to get a race under our belt before we race next week."
Yentes said he was pleased with the effort he got from his team, which had participated in just one event this season.
Katy Hall finished second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.72 seconds, just 0.01 seconds behind the winner of the event. Erin Kirby wasn't far behind, finishing fourth with a time of 8.93. Larissa Edwards was fifth, 9.04; Jenna Mann was eighth, 9.09; Maggie Ochsner was ninth, 9.23; and Elisa Hunter was 15th with a time of 10.68 seconds. Hall, Kirby and Edwards each broke into UW's top-10 all-time list with their performances.
Yentes used last year's performance at the event as his measuring stick for progress.
"We're much improved over last year," he said. "They all ran pretty good. I don't think anybody ran a flawless race, but it was good to get a race under their belt and they'll be better off in the next few weeks."
