Jan. 25, 2014
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -
Senior Mason Finley led the University of Wyoming men's and women's track and field teams with a throw of 65-3 1/2 to win the shot put during Saturday's Air Force Invitational. Finley has been victorious all three times he has entered the event this indoor season. Senior Jenna Mann paced the Cowgirls with a second-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.51.
"We were coming off a great performance last weekend, but we were a little down here at Air Force," UW head coach Bryan Berryhill said. "We made some mental errors out there that we'll have to clean up before we face a very good Montana State team next weekend in Gillette. We didn't have a lot of personal bests out there today, but they put in the effort. They were just competing on tired legs."
Sophomore Scott Carter claimed sixth in the triple jump in 46-4, while seniors Jacob Edwards and Aaron Praska both earned top-10 finishes in the 60-meter hurdles. Edwards was seventh in 8.47 and Praska was ninth at 8.49. Sophomore Amos Bowen crossed the finish line in the mile in a personal-best 4:21 for 10th.
Mann was followed in the 60-meter hurdles by freshman Mikalah Skates in 9.06 for eighth. Freshman Shana Wilcoxson placed seventh in the triple jump at 37-5, good for 10th on UW's all-time indoor charts. Fellow freshman Tabitha Briscoe was eighth in 37-4 1/2. Senior Candace Wollert ran 2:14 in the 800 meters for third and was followed three places back by freshman Cassidy Meade in 2:16. Senior Audrey West placed fifth in the 60 meters in 7.72 and junior Shreese Daniels was fourth in the shot put at 44-6 1/4.
Wyoming hosts Montana State for the Powder River Dual next Saturday at noon MT at the Campbell County Recreation Center in Gillette, Wyo.
