Distance Crew Highlights Wyoming Track's Friday

LARAMIE, Wyo. - Personal bests by several members of the distance squad highlighted the University of Wyoming track and field's Friday at the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash., and the Don Kirby Elite Invite in Albuquerque, N.M.
Junior Aaron Derner posted the top performance for Wyoming in Seattle. He ran 14:29.13 in the 5,000 meters to finish 30th overall in the race, but notched a personal best by 23 seconds. His time ranks sixth indoors in school history and is currently the third fastest time in the Mountain West this season. Sophomore Amos Bowen ran 14:36.95 for a six-second personal best to rank ninth in UW history. Junior Holly Page notched a personal best on the women's side by .9 of a second with a time of 17:02.09, which is second fastest in the MW this season and third in school history. She finished 23rd in the race.
In the field events, junior Shreese Daniels placed third in the weight throw with a toss of 63-0 1/4, while junior Katie Higgins was 17th at 52-0. On the men's side, sophomore Tyler Anderson finished eighth after a throw of 61-7 1/2. Senior Mason Finley was 12th at 59-7 3/4 and freshman Damon Unland was 18th at 55-5.
Senior Taylor Gardner had UW's best showing in Albuquerque. She ran 57.11 in the 400 meters for fourth and was followed by sophomore McKenzie Brogan in 57.17 for fifth. Sophomore Kereston Thomas crossed the line in the 200 meters in 24.95 for 34th and senior Audrey West was 41st in 25.10.
Both meets continue all day tomorrow.
