Douglass Sits In Second Halfway Through Decathlon

The weekend's competition began Thursday in Colorado Springs, Colo., for four University of Wyoming track and field student-athletes.
Junior Brandon Douglass was second in the decathlon after five events with 3,552 points, just 10 points out of first place. His marks included 11.0 seconds in the 100-meter dash and 50.76 in the 400-meter dash. He hit 35 feet, 3 ¼ inches in the shot put, 5-9 ¾ in the high jump and 22-5 ¾ in the long jump.
Freshman Kyle Sullivan was sixth out of six competitors with 2,535 points in the decathlon. His marks included 11.48 seconds in the 100, 51.80 in the 400, 18-1 ¾ in the long jump and 36-8 ¼ in the shot put.
Two Cowgirls took part in the heptathlon, and after four events, junior Katy Hall was in third with 2,641 points, just 330 points out of second. She ran in the 100-meter hurdles (14.59 seconds), the 200-meter dash (25.72), high jump (4-5 ½) and shot put, 28-11 ¼.
Freshman Julia Popish is in seventh of eight competitors with 1,997 points. Her marks included 18.24 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles, 26.67 in the 200, 23-11 in the shot put and 4-4 ¼ in the high jump.
All four will finish their events Friday, while some UW throwers will be in the Mesa Classic in Mesa, Ariz., and some Cowboy and Cowgirl runners will take part in the San Francisco State Distance Festival.
On Saturday, the throwers will be at the Arizona State Sun Angel Classic in Tempe, Ariz., while the distance runners will be in the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif. Others will be at the Air Force Relays in Colorado Springs.
