Air Force Relays results

The relay squads for the University of Wyoming track and field teams hit their collective stride Saturday at the Air Force Relays, as the Cowboys and Cowgirls combined to win six relays en route to an impressive performance.

"The kids ran pretty well and we got some good work in," Wyoming coach Don Yentes said.

The women's 4-by-100-meter relay team of Audrey West, Samantha Kee, Taylor Gardner and Lindsey Simmons was first with a time of 46.13 seconds. That same group won the 4-by-200-meter relay with a time of 1:39.81.

In the field events, West was third in the long jump, 17-4 ¼. Sophomore Emily Moore was third in the triple jump, 37-10 ¾.

Junior Maria Cress was fourth in the javelin throw, hitting 112-0.

Senior Paul Burke started the day with a fourth-place finish in the 5,000-meter run, with a time of 15:51.73.

The 4-by-100-meter relay team of Travis Gunderson, Jason Roascio, Jeremiah James and Lenyn Leonce then won the event with a time of 41.93. That same group won the 4-by-200-meter relay as well with a time of 1:27.36.

The Wyoming A relay team won the 4-by-400-meter hurdle relay as well, along with the 4-by-110-meter shuttle hurdle event.

James got back to his winning ways, coming away with the long jump title with a leap of 24 feet, 1 inch.

Junior Henry Ferreira was second in the javelin, hitting a mark of 188-11.

At Stanford Invitational (Palo Alto, Calif.)
Sophomore Candace Wollert was 20th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:09.55.

At ASU Sun Angel (Tempe, Ariz.)
Junior Joe Plante was fifth (170-11) in the discus, while freshman Paul Thomas was eighth (158-0) in the premier discus competition.

"The guys were a bit flat after a long day at Mesa on Friday but competed well against a loaded field with three of the top four discus throwers in the NCAA present," UW throws coach Paul Barrett said. "That will benefit them as far as experience going into the first round NCAA Championships in May."

At Mesa Classic (Friday at Mesa, Ariz.)
Senior Ashley Hutchinson had a season-best mark in the hammer, while freshman Shreese Daniels and junior Anna George set personal records in the hammer.
