Wyoming Throwers Begin Colorado Invite On High Note
April 8, 2011
BOULDER, Colo. - Three Wyoming track and field student-athletes finished the first day of action in the Colorado Invite, each coming away with top-four finishes.
Ashley Hutchinson began the day with a third-place finish out of 25 athletes in the hammer throw. Hutchinson finished the event with a personal-best toss of 178 feet, 9 inches. She was the top collegian in the event.
Maria Cress was fourth in the javelin throw. Cress, who had won her two previous javelin throw events, finished with a mark of 121-0.
Joe Riccio finished the day with an impressive performance in the men's hammer throw, as well. He was second in the event with a personal-best mark of 190-6. That also was the top mark for collegians in that event.
"The timing (of the athletes) is slowly coming together as the weather is warming," UW throws coach Paul Barrett said.
The rest of the UW tracksters will begin action at the Colorado Invite at 11 a.m. Saturday.
