May 13, 2010
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -
At the end of the second day of the Mountain West Conference Championships, Wyoming Cowboy senior Jay Petsch finished in second place in the men's decathlon, his highest finish ever.
Petsch was tied for the lead with freshman Richard York from New Mexico with the 1,500-meter run to go. In that event, Petsch finished in fourth place with a time of 5:05.38. With his total of 7,112 points, he entered his name into the Wyoming record books with the fifth best score all-time.
"Jay just had a tough time in the 1,500-meter run but he did a great job," said UW head coach Don Yentes. "What a great way to end a tremendous career for a guy that walked on to the program."
It took junior Britney Jackson a fourth place finish in the 800-meter run to earn an eighth place finish overall. She finished with a total of 4,290 points which is good for fifth in Cowgirl history.
The rest of the Cowboys and Cowgirls will take to the track and field on Friday in Albuquerque, N.M. Live results can be found at www.themwc.com.
