EUGENE, Ore. - The University of Wyoming's Mason Finley finished sixth in the discus with a throw of 196-5 (59.88 meters) during Friday's NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Hayward Field. The senior battled cloudy, cool temperatures that included an unfriendly wind to claim his 11th All-America honor.

"I thought Mason competed well, but the discs were not flying well for right-handed throwers with the wind conditions," UW associate head coach Paul Barrett said. "He stepped up and went after it and that is all you can ask. He represented the Pokes very well today and concluded a stellar career with his 11th All-America award. Now he will compete at the U.S. National Championships in two weeks, before starting his professional career. It has been a pleasure to work with Mason the past two years. He has been a class act and a great Cowboy teammate."

Finley hit that mark on his second throw to advance to the finals and notched the same distance on his first throw of the finals, but couldn't further his mark over his last two attempts. Alabama's Hayden Reed won with a throw of 205-10, as just four of the 11 competitors that entered the competition with a mark over 200 feet accomplished the feat on Friday. Finley was seeded fifth with a mark of 210-6.

The U.S. Track & Field Outdoor National Championships will be hosted in Sacramento, Calif., with Finley throwing the discus on Friday, June 27.
