The University of Wyoming men's and women's track and field teams travel to the 2014 Mountain West Indoor Championships this weekend in the Cadet Field House at the Air Force Academy. The meet begins at 11 a.m. MT on Thursday and Friday and 10 a.m. MT on Saturday. Fans can follow live results through GoWYO.com and live updates through Wyoming's official Twitter account @wyoathletics.

The Cowboys and Cowgirls made their final adjustments for the conference meet by hosting the Rocky Mountain Classic last Friday in War Memorial Fieldhouse. The Cowboys won eight of 10 events, highlighted by a facility- and school-record shot put of 66-3 1/4 by senior Mason Finley and the fifth-best triple jump in school history of 51-3 3/4 by sophomore Scott Carter. The Cowgirls won seven of 10 events, led by junior Shreese Daniels at 67-3 1/4 in the weight throw to further her personal best by nearly two feet. Finley was named the MW Athlete of the Week for his performance.

"The teams have done a great job getting better every week [this season]," UW head coach Bryan Berryhill said. "That is something we talked about at the beginning of the year. Get a little bit better each week and try to peak at the conference meet, whether it is indoors or outdoors. I think if you've watched practice or the competition at last Friday's meet, the kids are coming along nicely and we are going to come close to hitting our peak for each athlete this weekend."

History at the MW Indoor Championships
The Cowboys' top finish at the Mountain West Indoor Championships came in 2000 when they finished second with 142 points, their highest point total ever. The UW men haven't finished higher than fourth since then. The Cowboys have earned 31 individual MW titles, including Mason Finley winning the shot put last season at 65-1 1/2. The Cowgirls' top finish at the MW Indoor Championships was third in 2002 and 2005, including a program-best 101 points in 2002. The UW women haven't finished higher than fifth since 2008. The Cowgirls have claimed 18 individual MW titles, including Sabina Sandberg last year in the high jump at 5-8 3/4.

Last Time Out: Finley Breaks Wyoming's Shot Put Record Again
Senior Mason Finley has thrown the shot put in War Memorial Fieldhouse twice this season and twice he has broken both the facility and school record. The senior thrower did it again for the University of Wyoming track and field teams with a toss of 66-3 1/4 to win the event during last Friday's Rocky Mountain Classic on the Hager-LeBar Indoor Track. The performance paced the Cowboys to victories in eight of 10 events, while the Cowgirls were winners in seven of 10.

"We knew going in that our field events would be the highlight of this meet and we had big performances by a couple kids," UW head coach Bryan Berryhill said. "I really liked the energy of our team today. A small meet like this the week before the conference meet can sometimes be flat, but we brought a lot of energy today and that will set them up well heading into next weekend."

Finley's mark broke his previous school and facility record of 66-0 1/4, which he set during UW's Power Meet in December, and keeps him fourth in the NCAA in the event. His female counterpart Shreese Daniels excelled in the women's weight throw as well. The junior won at 67-3 1/4 to improve her personal best by nearly 2 feet. The mark keeps her second all-time in Cowgirl history and moves her up to 21st in the NCAA. Sophomore Scott Carter was also impressive in the triple jump, as he unleashed a leap of 51-3 3/4 to win and break his old personal best by more than 2 feet. The mark ranks fifth in Wyoming history and is 22nd in the nation.

"Mason and Shreese have both been working on some technical things in practice and they hit it today," Berryhill said. "Scott has been a little dinged up, but we've seen that in practice and knew he had it in him. Today he just went for broke each time down the runway and was rewarded with a great mark."

Other victories for the Cowboys included sophomore Harrison Einspahr in the 55 meters at 6.43 and junior Colin Herold in the 55-meter hurdles at 7.51. Junior Jason Roascio won the 300 meters in 36.42 and freshman Garrett Westlake, running unattached, won the mile in 4:22. Junior Kyle Sullivan won the high jump at 6-2 3/4 and sophomore Tyler Anderson was victorious in the weight throw at 63-2 1/4.

The Cowgirls took home titles in the 55 meters and 55-meter hurdles as well, thanks to a 6.91 from sophomore Kereston Thomas and 7.89 from senior Jenna Mann, respectively. Senior Natalie Hurst won the 300 meters at 41.75 and sophomore Catherine Cloetta crossed the line in the mile in 5:16 to win. Sophomore Sabina Sandberg tied a season-best at 5-5 to win the high jump and Mann won the long jump at 18-3 1/4.

Finley Collects Third MW Weekly Honor of the Season
Wyoming's Mason Finley was named the Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Male Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday. The weekly accolade was the third for Finley this season and fourth of his career. He has won the award three of the seven times it has been bestowed this season. Finley highlighted eight event titles for the Cowboys during last Friday's Rocky Mountain Classic in War Memorial Fieldhouse with a record-breaking toss of 66-3 1/4. The mark broke the school and facility record of 66-0 1/4 that Finley had established during last December's Power Meet. The throw keeps him first in the current Mountain West standings and fourth in the NCAA, while ranking second in conference history. In his career, Finley has broken Wyoming's school record in the shot put three times.

Top-10 Marks Piling Up
The Cowboys and Cowgirls combined to post 12 new top-10 marks on Feb. 14-15 in Albuquerque and Seattle. The Wyoming men notched seven marks, including the second-fastest 800 meters in school history by Harry Fisher at 1:49.29 and the second-fastest 60-meter hurdles by Colin Herold in 8.08. The Wyoming women earned five marks, including third-fastest 5,000 meters by Holly Page in 17:02.09 and the third-fastest 800 meters by Kerry White in 2:11.80. The current Cowboy roster owns 16 individual marks in Wyoming's all-time top 10, including one school record, while the Cowgirls have 22 individual marks and two school records.
