LARAMIE, Wyo. - Wyoming's Mason Finley has qualified for next weekend's 2014 NCAA Indoor Championships in the shot put, as the field was announced by the NCAA Track and Field Committee late Tuesday night. The senior will compete in the national meet for the second time as a Cowboy and seeks his 10th overall All-America accolade.

A native of Buena Vista, Colo., Finley enters the meet ranked fourth in the event after notching a throw of 66-3 1/4 (20.20 meters) at Wyoming's Rocky Mountain Classic on Feb. 21 in War Memorial Fieldhouse. The mark broke UW's school and facility record, a feat Finley accomplished twice during the season. He has won all seven shot put competitions he has entered this season and thrown more than 62 feet in each to earn Mountain West Athlete of the Week three times.

Most recently, Finley won his second-straight shot put title at the 2014 MW Indoor Championships last weekend in Albuquerque, N.M. His winning throw of 64-7 tied for the third-best distance in the meet's history. Finley will throw in the same place for the NCAA meet, as New Mexico also will host the national meet at the Albuquerque Convention Center. The men's shot put begins at 3:30 p.m. MT on Saturday, March 15.

Finley qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships last season, but did not place after fouling on each of his throws. He still earned Honorable Mention All-American, though, to become Wyoming's first male All-American since 2009. He entered the meet with the nation's second-best shot put at 65-9 3/4. Finley transferred to Wyoming in the summer of 2012 after three years at Kansas. He was an eight-time All-American for the Jayhawks, including two runner-up finishes in the shot and twice in the discus. He finished second in the shot put at the 2011 NCAA Indoor Championships.
