The Cowboys and Cowgirls set their sights on the Mountain West Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which begin Wednesday and run through Saturday in Colorado Springs, Colo. Hosted by the Air Force Academy, the championships are the beginning of the postseason for the University of Wyoming track and field program.

The field
The MW Championships feature six men's programs and eight women's teams. On the men's side, Air Force, Boise State, Colorado State, New Mexico, TCU and Wyoming make up the field. Those schools, along with UNLV and San Diego State, make up the women's side of competition.

Last year
The Cowgirls were eighth out of nine teams, while the Cowboys were sixth out of six teams. The Cowgirls had two champions in individual events, including sophomore Erin Kirby, who shocked the field in the 400-meter hurdles for the title.

The schedule
Action begins Wednesday with the men's decathlon and the women's heptathlon, with the conclusion of those events on Thursday. The men's hammer begins Thursday night, with all the other track and field events starting Friday and running through Saturday.

Coach-speak
"Health-wise, we're pretty good," Wyoming head coach Don Yentes said. "We've got a few aches and pains, but at this point in the year, if you don't, you haven't been training. We're feeling pretty good. We've had a very good spring and individually, I think we'll have some outstanding performances."
